This is something we have major, major concerns about on Reahill. Is there enough water? Is the water pressure high enough? Has a sprinkler system been mandated to be fitted? We did write to NIFRS and HSENI asking these questions, but they only look at a place _after_ it’s constructed. It would seem to be a little late then. And seeing the French Cathedral, and Primark, and the Macintosh School burn down, during or just after construction [to a new high standard], we are not at all happy that such a thing has potential to occur on Reahill.

The unit at the corner of Reahill Road and Carntall Road junction is a Clean Water Pumping Station. Our big question has been for some time - who does this pumping station service? Is it the residents of Carntall & Reahill, many who live further up the Reahill Rd; or will taxpaying and ratepaying residents lose out to some 17,500 pigs incarcerated in four large sheds on Reahill? Is there enough pressure in this little pumping station in the unthinkable event there would ever... be a fire on the Reahill Pig Factory site? how much drinking water will all those pigs need every day, plus water for cleaning the yards, lorries etc every day? How much water will be required for the one, possibly two Anaerobic Digestors if/when those begin to function? We have not yet been able to get straightforward answers from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough planning department in Mossley Mill. Seems like Pig Farmers have a little issue with biosecurity - not for the humans who live anywhere near this places, but for the pigs. Intensive animal facilities and pigs kept in such confined spaces are very likely to spread something like flu very quickly amongst themselves. The Farmweek Article does not betray the slightest concern for the thousands of people who may suffer from flu - just the pigs. It's another case of money, money, money. It's all about the money. The unfortunate animals are simply and solely walking ££/€€/$$ signs for the herd owner and nothing more. The entire video is about 'protecting investment'. Not a single word about humane treatment, pigs needs and requirements. Disease to humans??? Please think very carefully when you buy pork or bacon products. THIS is what you are endorsing and encouraging. It's much better to look for Organic, Free Range or Outdoor Reared. Effectively you are eating, supporting and endorsing misery. Just in case anyone cannot read the picture. Here's a link. Basically, it's how they are dealing with the stench and stink from pig slurry spreading when there are social functions in the area. And it's relevant to Reahill, because the new Crematorium is just down the hill, plus Mossley Mill, and anyone waiting on a train.....

Not different at all in Derrylin, Newtownabbey, Limavady, Monkstown, Stewartstown or Calhame Road. There are more in planning including one near Kells, Co Antrim. We and our environment are the losers, only the big corporations that own these places are the winners. Interesting - could we have a decent scientist in Northern Ireland too please? One that is not in thrall to the ‘agri-food industry’; one that looks at the scary Nitrates, Ammonia, Phosphate and more figures and says ‘Moratorium Now’. That would be a start. Mossley would NOT be a happy place for residents today. Ugh. This is the projection from Reahill. Add in any residual stink you get from Monkstown.... #daera #publichealthni #farmsnotfactories #toomuchslurry #plumeplotter
