Straw Craft Ireland is based at the shores of Lough Neagh in North Armagh; an area steeped in the history of traditional Irish crafts.
They have carried out extensive research of the straw craft tradition in Ireland and their exhibition include replicas of various straw pieces held in Irish museums and historical records. Their stunning replicas include practical items such as hens’ nests, mats, baskets, chairs, mummers’ masks and rocking cradle made using a method of plaiting unique to Ireland. They also have a wide range of more decorative straw pieces including St Brigid crosses, harvest knots and corn dollies. They also provide traditional mummers costumes and masks.
