Swimming Buddies Northern Ireland Description

We are Northern Ireland's only specialist Autism swim school.

At Swimming Buddies we aim to help all children reach their full potential in swimming and stay safe in the water while making some new friends along the way.

Our coaches have experience with children with Autism and understand the best teaching techniques to use while helping children to stay safe in the water. At poolside, children are supported by a specialist Support Worker kindly provided by our partners at Autism Initiatives.

Our classes have a ratio of 3: 1 and last 30 minutes with all coaches remaining in the water at all times. For some children, 1: 1 coaching may be required and options for this can be discussed to aid inclusivity.

Currently, our classes are based in Belfast but with your help and support we can establish swim schools throughout Northern Ireland. To discuss how you can help make this a reality, email info@ai-ni. co. uk or send us a message on Facebook.

We look forward to welcoming you on your swimming journey with Swimming Buddies.

*Please note Swimming Buddies requires parents to remain on site with children throughout the duration of their class. We have a strict no jumping in policy and children who are not fully toilet trained are required to wear swim nappies.

Over the past couple of days, we've been inundated with phone calls, Facebook messages and emails from parents enquiring about swimming lessons and water safety tips.
We're now in a position, thanks to our friends at Autism Swim, to provide our Swimming Buddies community with a handy tip sheet on Wandering & Drowning Prevention.

A sad incident that brings to light the importance of swimming lessons for all children.
β€œThese kiddos don't have words. But they can develop the skills to give them an extra few seconds. That could be the difference between face up and face down."
With weather this perfect, there's every reason to head to the beach or blow up that paddling pool but remember to stay safe whilst having fun.

We couldn't celebrate our birthday without raising a glass to Joel πŸ₯‚
The first person that we spoke to when Swimming Buddies was just an idea, Joel saw the potential and quickly became a team player and our go to man.
Thanks so much for believing in us, being an inspiration to the team and participants, as well as taking care of Friday classes.

❀️
And this is why Swimming Buddies was created - to give children a safe space to learn a life saving skill, grow confidence and develop social skills.
Finlay has been with us since the start and we're delighted to see his partnership with coach Pamela. Keep up the great work!

"Typically, swimming teachers check off boxes as the kids in their regular classes learn new skills in a set order. But for these private lessons, Chaisson came in and taught the young teachers to take their cues from the kids."

We love hearing from mums and dads - not only does it motivate our coaches but it shows us how important our service is for families with Autism.
Ahead of our new course starting next month, we'd appreciate it if you could take some time to write a review to help new families get an idea of what happens in and out of the pool.
Thanks!

1. Swimming - woop woops!
"When you swim regularly for at least 30 to 45 minutes at a time, you're doing aerobic exercise β€” a type of workout that a spate of recent research suggests could help battle depression, lift your mood, and reduce stress, among other benefits."
We're looking forward to our classes starting again in April.
