We have now entered our summer leave period, a time to put our feet up and relax! One member of the band that has definitely earned a rest is Corporal of Horse Irvine, who has spent the last four months pushing himself in marathons and achieving fantastic results, all in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. CoH Irvine completed the Cambridge half marathon in March, followed by the Greater Manchester marathon in April, the Rock and Roll Marathon in Liverpool in May and two days ago com...pleted the 100 mile Prudential Ride London!

A member of the band who can't quite put his feet up and relax just yet is Lance Corporal Laurie, who will be running an ultra marathon of 100km through the Wye Valley on the 11th of August in aid of Parkinson's UK. LCpl Laurie has been racking up the miles over the last few months in preparation and is determined to succeed! Last week two members of the band were awarded their Long Service and Good Conduct medal and a third was given a bar to add to their existing medal, presented by Major-General Sir Edward Smyth-Osbourne, KVCO CBE.
Corporal of Horse Mathews joined the Territorial Army, now the Army Reserve, as part of the 51 Highland Brigade band in 1998. In 2001 he pursued a full time career in Corps of Army Music and was assigned to the Band of the Scots Guards. In 2014 CoH Mathews was poste...d to the Band of The Blues and Royals just before the union with the Band of The Life Guards in September '14.
Lance Corporal of Horse Hinchliffe joined the Army in April 1993 and was posted to the Band of The Life Guards where he has spent the majority of his career with only a short time with the Band of the Light Cavalry in 2009-2012.
Lance Corporal of Horse Wright was posted to the Band of The Blues and Royals in 2003 and has remained within the Household Cavalry ever since!
Corporal of Horse Mathews and Lance Corporal of Horse Wright have each been judged to have served with an impeccable record of 15 years and as such were awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct medal. Lance Corporal of Horse Hinchliffe was awarded a bar for his Long Service signifying 25 years of good conduct.

It's another working weekend for us! After providing musical support for the Changing of the Guard Ceremony today at Windsor Castle, we travel to Norfolk tomorrow to support The Household Cavalry's Open Day. Details are as follows:
Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment Open Day at Bodney Camp, Norfolk. Gates Open at 10am and close at 5pm. Yesterday our State Trumpeters welcomed the President and First Lady of the United States of America to Blenheim Palace with a fanfare specifically composed for the occasion by the Director of Music, Major Craig Hallatt. The fanfare is titled 'Hands Across the Sea'.
President Trump and the first lady were also treated to a display by the Band of the Scots Guards, Band of the Irish Guards and Band of the Welsh Guards. The Countess of WessexŌĆÖs String Orchestra provided music ...during dinner.
