The Belfast Wine Festival Description

Do you know your Beaujolais from your Bordeaux? Are you a connoisseur or do you just enjoy an occasional glass with dinner? Either way, if you enjoy wine, Belfast’s first ever Wine Festival is the place for you.

Monday 29th August will see St George’s Market, Belfast come alive with the sights, scents and tastes from the world’s best vineyards, as it hosts the Belfast Wine Festival.

The day-long festival, headlined by Saturday Kitchen star, Olly Smith, is set to attract thousands of wine lovers keen to learn more about their favourite varieties and styles and hopefully discover lots of new ones.

Popping the cork at 11am, visitors can immerse themselves in the wine-producing countries of the world with the atmospheric market being divided into all of the major wine producing countries in the Old and New World.

World renowned wine expert Olly Smith will give an introductory talk before the hourly tours of the regions. Dozens of food and drink stalls dotted throughout the Festival will let everyone sample a wide variety of produce.

Gavin Butterworth, Organiser of Belfast Wine Festival says the interest in the festival has been phenomenal: “We are absolutely delighted with the response to the Festival already.

“We will have over 25 wine experts on-hand who will showcase over 500 wines from vineyards from around the world, with the opportunity to sample as many as you can muster.

He continued, “We also have developed a bespoke palate testing area which will allow everyone, from the wine novice to the expert to ascertain their own palate’s to help learn a little more about what styles and varieties they may enjoy.

He continued, “We are especially delighted to have secured our host Olly Smith, who has taken time out of his busy filming schedule to attend the event. He will be not only our guest speaker but will host a special three course lunch and dinner and will be on-hand to meet and greet guests advising them on his experience and knowledge of the industry. ”
