Fantastic fish and chips.. chips nice and crispy, batter on the fish not too heavy. Portions sizes very generous and good value for money

The food here is simply to die for and its situated rather well if your in Newcastle for a day trip or whatever and own a car its a ten minute drive from donard car park and well worth every minute, however walking i imagine wouldnt be a great experience. As i said before the food is great and the fish is fresh as its close to the sea, it soumds great but i refused to give five stars simply because i didnt meet the staff as other family members got the food so i couldnt give that extra star.

Arrived to be told there was no seats even though they quickly rushed to put a reserved sign on a table in front of our eyes! This didn't bother us to be honest as we hadn't booked and so were happy to wait!
We were told "there's no seats at the minute so wait outside" .....yes very blunt I thought ! Could have been worded so much nicer but again we gave the benefit of the doubt! We sat as we were told, 5 minutes passed and a couple of men had came out as well as a family with young children! We waited another few minutes as 2 young guys went in and got a seat almost immediately! I went in to use the bathroom and on my way out could clearly see a table large enough for us 4 still left the way the customers who left maybe 5+ minutes ago with no effort being made to clear it! I decided to walk up to Top Nosh to see if they were opened and indeed they were and I got a lovely welcome! I walked back down and got the rest of my family and still no one had came out to offer them a table bearing in mind another 3/4 minutes had passed! Totally disgusted to be honest with the Galley on this occasion & wont be rushing back any time soon 😡

Easily the best fish and chips for miles... reasonably priced as well. Sit in and takeaway are both good. Fish is caught locally where possible. Nice atmosphere inside. Friendly staff.

I was introduced to this restaurant as the best chippy in the country... i believed.

On the factual side of things:
- big hearty meals
- well battered fish, no excess, not overly greasy
- fast service
- lovely terrace at the front for dry warm days
- clean
- individual toilets
- a lot of tables (but it can be busy)
