About The Morning Star
Award Winning Pub & Restaurant in the heart of Belfast City Centre
The Morning Star Description
Located in a romantic old entry running between Ann Street and High Street, the Morning Star is easily identified by the superb Victorian sign handing from a grandly exuberant iron bracket jutting out from the corner of the bar. Have a good look the next time you go outside the building – it’s one of the finest examples of its type to be found anywhere in Ireland.
Another great rarity is the Winged Lion of St Mark sitting proudly on the corner.
Our building is historically listed and can trace its history back to 1810 when it was mentioned in the Belfast Newsletter as being one of the terminals for the Belfast to Dublin Mail Coach. The downstairs bar has its original mahogany counter with its old terrazzo floor. The Morning Star is a must for anyone anxious to see “a living museum piece of old Belfast”.
We offer ‘real food’, prepared and served by professional and courteous staff.
The menu enclosed is a small representation of what we offer from our kitchen daily.
We prepare our meals from produce sourced locally using the best of our supplier and growers. We specialise in fresh local produce, fresh fish and seasonal vegetables.
Our beef and steaks are all from Quality Assured stock. We cook only in butter, olive oil or low cholesterol vegetable oil and use only free range eggs.

Went to the star yesterday with the wife we have been in the past and I must say they never fail to deliver. The boss had the buffet menu I had the Ulster Beef stuffed brisket beautiful food great portions waiting time was spot on just gave you the time to savour a nice cold pint before our meals. The surroundings are just what you look for in a Belfast pub bar staff are brill and the two waitresses who promptly got us a table were very attentive and polite and were second to none. Atmosphere perfect. Thanks to all the team we look firward to visit again soon.
We sat outside 27 in the shade with a lime and Soda great busker playing with limit3d but great act. Could have sat and chilled for hours. Spotlessly clean. Great time with mum
Lovely meal this evening. Great atmosphere. Laoise and Corinne were so friendly and helpful. Will return.

Love this place. This is the 2nd time I've been here for the 24oz Rump Steak. Definitely the best steak I've ever had. Cooked perfectly. The service was great too. Highly recommended
I had been meaning to revisit The Morning Star for some time, Not living in Belfast makes it a little more difficult . So was in Belfast yesterday on a shopping trip with my girlfriend. So we decided to take a chance, well we weren't disappointed I had a 10oz sirloin cooked to perfection. The service was very friendly and attentive. Suffice to say we will be back. Thank you Morning Star.
I had a seafood chowder and a 10 oz sirloin medium rare.
Excuse the word, but they were both fuckin’ fantastic.
Chowder with plenty of seafood and the steak realy medium rare.
Where it usualy means “cooked to fuck” it was outstanding in the Morning Star.
Thank you and see you again whenever I’m back in Belfast City.

A fantastic find on our trip to Belfast! 6 fantastic meals, great drinks and service. The staff were friendly, helpful and a great laugh too! We had an amazing time and highly recommend The Morning Star :-)
We were only in Belfast for the afternoon as we were flying home to Scotland in the evening . We stumbled across your establishment and I have to say we enjoyed your food very much . Staff were lovely too . The one downside is that we had to ask for a VAT receipt and even then all we got was a copy of our bill and still no VAT receipt . Can’t understand why we were not given a VAT receipt . That was the only downside and that’s more to do with the owner I feel, rather than staff
Wasn’t impressed this time round. Love this place but nothing went right this last visit I know it’s christmas but it wasn’t even that busy so don’t know why the standards had dropped. It’ll be a while till I’m back. Disappointed!
This place is the worst place I've ever been it's Imbarressing how they don't even know there own rules making them up as they go along willing to take money before making rules up unprofessional is a understatement
Came here after Xmas shopping and expected great food after being recommended the pub grub. Never had a worst burger in my life - it was absolutely pathetic, over cooked and the bap was hard as a rock. Took 45 minutes and would have got a nicer burger from a £3 chip van. Chips were nice & staff were lovely but won't be back or recommending it to anyone for food.
