We offer lessons in Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, and Vocals in a positive, encouraging environment.

We’re a ‘contemporary’ music school for kids aged 7-18 yrs, which sounds very grand but simply means we teach Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums and Vocals, as opposed to the more ‘classical’ instruments.

The Rock Project is in session as an 'after school' club, during term time between 15: 45pm and 20: 00pm at the following locations:
Tue: Ballyclare Presbyterian Church halls,
Wed: Merville House, Newtownabbey
The: Hollywood Presbyterian church halls

Each school runs for four hours and is split into two classes, each lasting two hours… Juniors (7-11yrs) from 3: 45pm to 5: 45pm, followed by Seniors (12-18yrs) from 6: 00pm to 8: 00pm.

Each session consists of one hour of music related fun activities… Games, Quiz, and Plug & Play, where students will have the opportunity for a jam session in a ‘band’ with their fellow students, and one hour of tutoring where they’ll split into smaller tutoring groups of each instrument. Students are tutored on techniques for that particular instrument and will learn that weeks tune(s). They’ll then practice that tune during the week (we hope! ?) and when they come back the following week for their next session they’ll be playing it as part of their Plug & Play session.

Students are encouraged to bring their own instrument (with the exception of drums… use ours, it’s much easier), but all instruments can be supplied at the school, and students can change from one instrument to another during the year if they wish, assuming there are places available in the group they’d like to join.

We ask you to ‘commit’ to joining for the year… 39 weeks, just like normal school… but there’s no obligation to do so, and you won’t be tied in. At the end of the year we put on a Showcase Concert to friends and family where everyone gets the opportunity to get on stage with the Tutors and perform. All of our tutors will be have undergone DBS /CRB enhanced check to work with children.

Not everyone at The Rock Project will want to enter grade exams, but we are affiliated with Rockschool Graded Music Exams and can incorporate their curriculum into our lessons, and we’re happy to do so. Please let us know from the outset if this is required and be advised there is an additional cost (payable to Rockschool) for entry to their examination process.
