What is The Scan Shop?

The Scan Shop is a 35mm negative film scanning service performed in the united Kingdom, we scan and digitalise primarily 35mm negative film and slides into high definition digital files for you to keep and cherish for decades after the original 35mm negatives have deteriorated.


How does the process work?

Well firstly you could contact us on Facebook to discuss your potential order, we’ll then provide you with some options for your requirements along with an estimated timescale to complete and return your order. If all is good you send us your negatives by at the very least recorded delivery, once received you’ll be notified. For orders of less than 5000 scans, payment is required in advance and can be sent along with your negatives or prepaid online via electronic transfer. Depending on the amount of negatives provided, we’ll either send them back to you by tracked insured mail to an address provided periodically, or once all scans are complete as a job lot.


How do I receive my scanned now digital images?

Generally we’ll return your digital images on DVD although for large orders we may load onto a USB solid state drive for simplicity.


How high a quality are the images I’ll receive?

This depends on the quality you wish for them to be scanned and also the initial quality of the negatives, the majority of our scanning is performed on a Nikon Supercool Scan 9000 and all our scanned images are digitally retouched before completion so you can relax in the knowledge we’ll extract and render the images back to you in their highest possible quality for the scan level you select.


Are my pictures treated confidentially?

Absolutely, other than quality this is our main aim. Only the persons limited to our scanning team will ever see your images (normally limited to one person). After a period of 28 days all images are electronically destroyed. We will never use your images in any form of promotion.


Can you remove redeye, dust and other imperfections?

Absolutely, every image is individually reviewed as standard before being signed off as acceptable, depending on your requirements as per our initial instructions we can perform various digital corrections to your images, although a small charge will be added per image corrected.


How long do DVD's last for ?

The answer to this is a still unknown although general agreement depending on storage conditions, care etc is around 100 years is generally accepted as a reasonable timescale


Can you create a slideshow of my images?

We could although we feel companies offering this service are generally charging for something which you could have for free. Did you know our DVD’s and USB drives will play as a slideshow automatically on a Playstation or PC / MAC? We’ll provide you with details when you receive your digital images.


How should I Package my negative images?

With uptmost care! We recommend you send us your negative images in some form of boxed protection; ideally some form of plastic lunch box is ideal as this will provide the maximum economical protection for your negatives. We will return all negatives generally in the same manner we receive them via tracked mail.


How long does it take to complete my order ?

We do our best to get orders back to our clients as fast as possible, you will be given an approximate timescale upon receipt of your negatives.


Will my negatives be in the same condition when returned?

Absolutely, our scanning process does not have any damaging effect on your negatives. Our technicians work in a lab which can boast clinical levels of hygiene to ensure your negatives remain totally undamaged whilst wearing protective clothing.
