Thornton Architecture Studio is an RIBA and ARB registered practice. We advocate Sustainable Domestic Architecture, Renovation and Extension and offer a wide range of Architecture services.

Thornton Architecture Studio was started by Will Thornton.

What is Sustainable domestic Architecture? It should create a home, It should be personal to its creators and specific to its location.
It should not simply provide shelter and storage, it should harness and enhance the lives of those who inhabit it without impacting the lives of those who do not.

Existing Dwellings contribute 27% of the UKs total Carbon emissions, this means they are costing their owners more to heat than dwellings constructed to current and projected building regulations (which will soon be required to have little or no emissions).
With a considered approach it is possible to reduce existing buildings energy use and therefore have a significant benefit to the cost of running a home.

Thornton Architecture Studio takes a pragmatic approach to Sustainability:
It should improve your quality of life first and foremost while having as small on (or no) impact upon our habitat as possible.

Sustainable Architecture is about people and technology: whats needed, whats desired, whats the impact, whats the best way to arrive at a solution?


Will has studied Fine Arts and Architecture (Degrees), Architecture (Diploma) and Sustainable Design (Masters). Prior to starting Thornton Architecture Studio Will lived and worked in Glasgow where he worked on multi million pound Health, Education and Master planning projects for one of Europe's largest Architecture Practices.
Since returning to Belfast he has renovated and extended his own home in line with sustainable practices noted above, worked with communities across Northern Ireland providing both funding support through the Big Lottery Space & Place programme and Sustainable Architecture advice on their projects.
