You've probably seen R.M. Drake's work on the Instagram feeds of celebrities like the Kardashians and Ludacris. Set on handmade gray paper and in typewriter font are his literary prose that ruminate on love, death and loneliness. His posts garner thousands of comments but with the exception of an understated "r.m drake" signature at the bottom, very little context is given about what the words are referring to, where the work originated from or any information about the write...r. So who is R.M. Drake?
Robert Macias, who goes by the name R.M. Drake, is a self-published writer. He has 1 million followers on Instagram, 16K on Twitter and 19,985 likes on his Facebook page. And right now his book Beautiful Chaos is the 7th best-selling book in Amazon's poetry category, placing himself in the company of Edgar Allan Poe and Sylvia Plath. But what sets R.M. Drake apart from many of his best-selling companions is that he came into popularity not through the publicity of a big publishing deal or a piece in The New Yorker, but through comments and likes on Instagram.

Not too often you see New York accompanied by a Van Gogh quote....but the multi colour bulb reminds me a teeny tiny bit of one of my favourite paintings....(you know the one😉). Vincent Van Gogh painted "Starry Night" in 1889 from a room in the mental asylum at Saint-Remy where was recovering from mental illness and his ear amputation.
Van Gogh painted the view from his east-facing window in the asylum 21 times. Although the series depicts various times of day and night and ...different weather conditions, all the works include the line of rolling hills in the distance. None show the bars on the window of his room.
The artist considered "The Starry Night," which one day would rank among his most famous works, to be a failure, according to what he wrote to his brother.

A sad day here in County Tyrone. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragic loss of beautiful young lives.

"Gentle when stroked, fierce when provoked", appears on the coat of arms of early Irish kings along with a shamrock and a harp. It's a lovely poetic line but it doesn't tell us how or when the Irish Wolfhound became a part of Ireland's history and heritage.
Through ancient woodcuts and writings, historians have determined that the breed existed as early as 273BC - and probably much earlier. For example, when the Celts sacked Delphi in 600 BC, one survivor was impressed enough... to leave an account of the huge dogs who fought alongside their masters.
Before Christ was born, Julius Caesar mentions them in his "Gallic Wars". During the 3rd or 4th century, the famed Irish poet Ossian celebrated the mighty mythical warrior and huntsman, Finn, son of Cumall. Finn was chief of the High King Cormac, commander of the armies and master of the hounds - 300 adults and 200 puppies. According to legend, Finn’s favorite hound, Conbec, could head off and bring back any stag in Ireland to Finn’s main pack. It was said that “no hound but Conbec did ever sleep in the one bed with Finn.”
The ancient Irish word for hound is "cu". In those days, it was common for warriors and even kings to place the preface "Cu" in front of their names, the implication being that they were as worthy of respect as a cu. A well-known Irish epic is the legend of CuChulainn (koo-hoo-lin), perhaps the most famous of the old Irish heroes.
As the story goes, he came to the castle of a King, but his entrance was barred by a huge hound. He battled with the dog for a day and a night before he was finally able to kill it. Then, in typically Irish fashion, he was filled with remorse that he had been forced to slay so fine and noble a beast. To make it up to the King, he resolved to act as the King's hound for a year and a day, and so he came to be known as CuChulainn, "Hound of Cullain".

"I hate Mondays ", "I'm not overweight,I'm under tall "... Yes Garfield is me in feline form...but did you know... Garfield was born on June 19, 1978, in the kitchen of Mamma Leoni's Italian Restaurant to his mother and his unnamed father, weighing 5 lbs and 6 ounces at birth (This was the actual birth weight of Jim Davis' son, James). He has loved lasagna since the day he was born, and it has always been his favorite food ever since. However, unlike the majority of his famil...y, even his parents, who were rodent preying "mousers", the restaurant owner of Mamma Leoni's Italian restaurant had to choose between keeping Garfield or closing down his restaurant due to a lack of pasta, so Garfield was sold to a pet shop. On the same day as his birth, Jon came to the pet store and had to choose between Garfield, an iguana, and a pet rock. In the November 14, 1978 comic strip Jon quoted, "I love cats. I wanted a cat... So what do I do? I go to the pet store and ask for a cat. What do they give me?... A lasagna with fur and fangs."

I am a huge Disney fan,and loved Moana. The attention to detail is always mind blowing . The first heavily-tattooed Disney lead character comes alive in Moana. Maui, who is played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is covered in Maori tattoos which is an amazing step for the tattoo community on a whole. After years of parents shielding their precious children's eyes from body art, freaking Disney puts an inked-up character in their biggest release of the year.
That Maui is tattooed ...is one thing, but that they got the tattoos right is another major boon to the tattoo industry. Often times tattoos go up on the big screen and they are just drawn by some graphic designer with no sense of history. Not in Moana, Disney used a Polynesian tattoo specialist to check all of the designs. According to The New York Times, "The Samoan tattoo artist Su’a Peter Sulu’ape, a sixth-generation master tattooist, checked every mark and pattern; fishermen in Fiji helped with the film’s boats and ropes. 'We would not lock a design until we had someone’s eyes on it,' [the producer] said.".
Maui's tattoos boast about his exploits, including this one in which he is shown slowing down the sun with his fish hook. The legend says that the sun was slowed from setting so that Maui's people could get more work accomplished.

Happy St. Patrick's day! For those who don't recognize this...it's The Ha'penny Bridge in Dublin.... Before the Ha’penny Bridge was built, anyone needing to get across the Liffey had to travel by boat or risk sharing the road with horse-drawn carriages. Seven different ferries, all operated by a city Alderman named William Walsh, would transport passengers over the river at different points along the bank. Eventually, the ferries fell into such disrepair that Walsh was ordere...d to either replace them all or to build a bridge.
Walsh abandoned his fleet of leaking boats and got into the bridge business after being granted the right to recoup his lost ferry income by charging a toll to cross the bridge for the next 100 years. Turnstiles were installed at either end to ensure no one was able to avoid the toll — a half pence fee. The old half penny toll gave birth to the bridge’s nickname: Ha’Penny. The bridge has gone through several other official names, but since 1922 it has formally been called the Liffey Bridge.
The bridge opened in 1816 and its inauguration was marked with 10 days of free passage before the halfpence toll was instituted. At one point, the fee went up to a penny ha’penny (1½ pence), before being brought to an end in 1919. Now a symbol of the city, the Ha’penny Bridge was fully restored in 2001.

I had such fun matching lamps to letters,it got me thinking...would it work for my favorite quotes, authors, song lyrics? Let's find out... First up, JRR TOLKIEN..who knew he had an annual Tolkien Reading Day? Tolkien Reading Day is an annual event, launched by The Tolkien Society in 2003, that takes place on 25 March. It has the aim of encouraging the reading of the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, and the use of Tolkien's works in education and library groups. The date of 25 March ...was chosen in honour of the fall of Sauron, in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
The day was originally suggested by Sean Kirst, a columnist at The Post-Standard in Syracuse, New York. Kirst has organized Tolkien Reading Days every year since 2008. ( Anyone counting the days until G.O.T.?

I bought the little rabbits/ bunnies lamp for my sister earlier this year having only ever seen the pictures on Facebook. Thought it was a tad expensive but my sister had just moved into a new home and recently lost her pet rabbit and as I'm working overseas at the moment it was the best I could do to show my support from a distance. Now home for the summer holidays and have to say it was worth every penny it's huge, from the pictures I imagined it as quiet small but nope it big and beautiful and best of all my sister loved/ loves it.

Thank you

I asked for something a wee bit different, I very quickly had a template sent through which I loved. When I went to collect my light I can honestly say I was blown away by how amazing it was. Everyone who has seen it has commented on how amazing it is. Wholeheartedly recommend Tique lights to anyone looking something really special.
