#OnThisDay: 11th August 1879 - Thomas Millar Born
Millar worked on the construction of Titanic and joined White Star Line as an assistant deck engineer for the maiden voyage. Before he left Belfast, he gave both of his young sons two new pennies, telling them "Don't spend those until I see you again". Sadly he did not survive the sinking.
Many years later, his grandaughter Susie Millar wrote a book "The Two Pennies" which provides a unique insight into how the tragedy affected ordinary lives, in particular those of Thomas Millar's two sons.

We have just got back from visiting Belfast’s Titanic exhibition.

we ordered the white star line premium passes online which covered the discovery tour, titanic galleries and SS Nomadic and I must say the whole day was Fantastic.

We enjoyed every minute of it!

Our tour guide Gareth was amazing (would highly recommend him to take you round) we spent approximately 6 hrs there.

we definitely need to visit again some day as we didn’t quite see it all.

Fantastic if you have a child who’s obsessed with titanic like I do.

The gift shop is very reasonably priced (I did expect prices to be a lot higher)

The only negative thing I’d say is the food is quite expensive,

if your a big family I’d recommend taking a picnic.

User

We had a magical day out at the Titanic. There was plenty to do & see. Staff were very helpful. Worth every penny tbh. I learnt so much, The food was amazing, enjoyed every bit of it. I would recommend if your in Belfast? This is a must see. It is an experience I will never forget. I waited for a few years to see this, I was not disappointed. Give it 5 ÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩ stars . Caithnesslass

User

Visited yesterday with my hubby, was a fantastic experience we loved every minute of it. So much to do, and the staff were amazing Worth every penny. Will definitely be back to Belfast again very soon, beautiful city very welcoming and loads to do would highly recommend a visit to the titanic experience ÔøΩ

User

Very informative exhibition! My daughter and I were in Belfast for the first time and it was amazing how professional and yet respectful the Titanic theme was showed. Very friendly and warm staff - Greetings to Rory! ;-) And many thanks to Rob, who took so much time during the tour and many exciting details to tell.

User

This place is incredible! I would go again and again. I recommend the Premium White Star Pass which gets you into all the exhibits including the Nomadic, a family picture, discounts at the cafe and gift shop, and a guided tour. If you can, request Rob...he is an amazing story teller and so knowledgeable. The hotel is lovely and full of history as well!

User

Just returned from my second visit, with a third planned later in the year. I'd recommend the White Star Pass to get the full benefits of this experience. The Nomadic is a step back in time that's tangible and aweinspiring. The slipway is mind blowing and the tour is yet another highlight.

Our tour guide this time was 'Rob.' It really does change the experience when someone is so knowledgeable and passionate about it as he was. We all loved it and I learnt things that surprised me. We also stayed at the Titanic hotel this time and that took the experience to another level. I can't recommend this place enough.

** Talk to the staff. They are not just standing there to look pretty. They are knowledgeable and will give you insights into things you couldn't imagine. Ask them questions, that's why they work there. To share their knowledge.

User

In Belfast for a couple of days & this was on trip adviser as one place to visit. So glad I booked the White Star pass as Rob, the guide, was a fountain of Titanic knowledge. Fascinating tour, lots of info & interesting facts about the Centre itself.

I was lucky enough to get married here in 2015 on St Valentines Day. The staff were amazing and especially Holly Wilson who helped me organise my wedding. Holly made it such a special day and nothing was too much trouble. The venue was incredible and the food was excellent. It was the perfect location for the wedding and reception, we had such beautiful photos taken and I highly recommend Titanic Belfast as a wedding venue. The museum is fantastic and gave such insight and accuracy into RMS Titanic that I have never seen before at other Titanic events. We will be coming back to Belfast time and time again, the city and people are so friendly and there is so much to see. 5 stars from me and my husband for giving us the best day of our lives.

User

Great experiences on July 4th here myself and five children including a 10mth old baby. Staff were so nice and really helpful. Fabulous food in Bistro 401-the burger was one of the nicest I've had and great service too. Highly recommended visiting if you're a Titanic fan. We loved the SS Nomadic too. Thanks to all involved.

User

Amazing experience!!! Just want to give a shout out to Jolene from the Bistro, she is amazing! So friendly and helped cater to us very well! Thank you!! ÔøΩ

User

Absolutely loved our Titanic experience! (Unlike the original passengers)

Totally worth the money and such a well thought out layout. Went with my husband, daughter and ex Seaman father. We all loved it. However, I bought my friend Claire a Titanic pen and she quite rightly pointed out that the boat in the pen not only reaches its destination but also returns unscathed!

She felt that this could be confusing for overseas visitors...

User

Absolutely fantastic experience. Our guide Libby was excellent and really explained the story of the shipyards and Titanic as well as the building and the extreme attention to detail that has been given to the outside and the inside. Totally recommend a visit to anyone, fan of Titanic or not!ÔøΩÔøΩ

User

A world class presentation of the context and events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic on its maiden voyage in April 2012. Although actual artefacts are (for obvious reasons) scarce, the museum presentations make maximum and ingenious use of advanced digital and mechanical technologies to convey the enormous scale of the technical challenges and breath taking innovations of the Titanic. Definitely worth the cost of a round trip to Belfast to visit this exciting museum. Prize for best local punning of the name of this attrAction must go to the restaurant with this over the door: “Thai tannic”!

User

We visited Titanic Belfast in 2017. We knew some of Titanic's history but, wow, did we learn a lot. We opted for a self-guided tour. There is a lot of reading on your way round which is fine for us as we're avid readers. However, about 75% of the way through we were into information overload, our brains swimming in Titanic knowledge. There is so much to share at this museum you almost would benefit from a couple of visits just to absorb it all. We did find the prices a bit high compared to other similarly styled museums we have visited in the UK, Europe and N. America, but it was well worth it. Enjoy!

User

But of a long shot but I lost my purple fitbit watch charge 2 in the museum last week on Thursday. Please let me know if anyone has found it. Enjoyed the museum but turned out to be an expensive trip X

User

Great exhibition but the service in Bistro 401 really let down the experience.

Arrived at Bistro 401 before 11.45 and ordered a bacon & egg roll for my son as the menu said breakfast available to 11.45. The lady behind the counter refused the order even though we were there before 11.45 and told us the breakfast menu closed at 11.40 - I checked my watch it was now 11.41! So either the signage was wrong or the staff are completely inflexible over 1 minute. We took our business elsewhere.

We are from Australia and this time missed out on the famous Irish hospitality...

User

This was OK but an integral part of the exhibition was broken the ride part and was not informed of this when paying the ticket and wasn't offered any discount. Not good customer service. Don't eat at the cafe unless you like stale food. Make sure you ring up to make sure everything is working prior to entry.

User

I visited the Titanic Experience last week. A good time spoiled by a billboard. That read “England is Ireland’s enemy.”

Why ? apparently it sets the context of the period when Titanic was built.

Try explaining that to hundreds of foreign visitors and more importantly children who visit every day.

Perpetuating division and hatred is nearer the truth in my book.

I can’t recommend you visit until the 1 metre square billboard is removed.

I did complain on the day and by email and got no response.

Sad really.

User

On arriving to "The titanic afternoon tea", with my family, my poor 87 year old granny fell backwards, due to the speed of the escalator, and ended up knocking my mum backwards also!!! Seemed like ages before the thing stopped. My grannys leg was all cut and im sure she will be sore tomorrow. We were all in shock. A member of staff called Janet was quick to write out the incident form, which she folded over and asked us to sign. Im glad i double checked, as she had wrote "my granny tripped". No she didnt trip. I think they were trying to cover the real reason. Nice try!!! The escalators should be moving slower and maybe an emergency button half way up. Nobody was really in the mood for the afternoon tea, as a result of this. To be honest, it wasnt that great anyway!!! There wasnt even a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink offered, and believe me, i could have done with one.
