All of my experience and energies are devoted to a Successful outcome in the Transfer Test. Every child is taught on a 1: 1 basis. Tutorials take place in my Study in my home. This is where I have access to extensive resources. My workload does not allow time for travel. I don’t do groups.

Each session is supported by a written Individual Progress Record that records exactly what was covered in the Tutorial in addition to the pupil’s own account of the key learning points covered during that particular session. This builds up to form a personally valuable resource for each pupil since it contains a whole range of individual specific examination techniques together with information that they will want to remember, especially during examination revision. In this way parents can monitor any Homework given, monitor the actual content of each Tutorial and, importantly, are kept involved.

The first Tutorial takes the form of an Assessment to which both Parents /Guardians are warmly invited. The purpose here is to identify areas of strength as well as those that are causing concern. Since this is the first public examination that most pupils undergo, preparation for a test environment is essential. On average candidates have approximately 1 minute to answer a Maths Question and 50 seconds to answer an English question. This means that emphasis is not only the score achieved but the time taken. Pupils learn how to manage their time effectively, make smart, intelligent guesses in questions that they would not normally attempt. This also allows for specific teaching on gaps that they have in the set curriculum

The overall impact of this is a huge boost in Knowledge, Confidence, Mental Preparation and the Self-assurance to say:

“I don’t know what is going to be in the Transfer Test but I do know exactly how I’m going to deal with it! ”

I have extensive experience and indeed Qualifications in Special Needs work, including those with learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Autism and in particular Asperger’s Syndrome

CREATIVE WRITING

Currently I work with 2 aspiring writers who are working towards publication of their first novel. One is an adult and the other a 14 year old.

I have successfully published numerous articles in both National and local Newspapers (see Down Recorder example). Moreover, I have written and had published a technical Legal Book and, in contrast, a selection of my Poetry. In addition I have composed the lyrics for a song released through Gotham Records.

In short I am very aware of what is required to engage a variety of audiences and consequently to get material into print and to this end maintain a working relationship with Publishing Houses.
