"I had three generations of my family here - the first time they'd ever heard the Ulster Orchestra. I really, really appreciate them coming here to the Shankill Road and giving us a wee opportunity to hear them."
Great feedback from our guided walk through Shostakovich's 8th Symphony at the Spectrum Centre on Thursday past.
Our Composers and the State series continues in the new year with Strauss's Four Last Songs and Shostakovich's Symphony No.4 in the Waterfront Hall, featuring renowned soprano Dorothea Röschmann and a huge orchestra, befitting the scale of the work.

The Music Room is a fantastic short drama about a young boy who, supported by his teacher, finds refuge from his warring parents in the most imaginative way possible.
It's a striking tale about the power of music and escapism, and it's a project we were only too happy to be involved in. Congratulations to everyone involved on a wonderful piece of work, which is available on the BBC iPlayer for the next twenty days.

This Friday sees the next concert in our Composers and the State series, with the Ulster Orchestra performing pieces by Shostakovich and Strauss.
A rare outing for Shostakovich's emotionally complex 8th Symphony is one of the most ambitious performances in our 2018/19 season.
With over 80 musicians on stage you get a very real sense of the scope and scale of this pivotal piece, appropriate for a symphony written to mark the end of the costly Stalingrad campaign.
... Tickets are still available for the concert on Friday, 30th of November. Performance starts at 7.45 sharp.

On the 21st of November the Ulster Orchestra, in partnership with the Alzheimer's Society organised a tea dance in the iconic Ulster Hall with the kind support of our Big Give campaign donors.
The audience enjoyed the Orchestra performing a set of big band classics and ballads, ably assisted by the superb vocal talents of Peter Corry.
