Where does the time go !!! This memory post showed up today it really seems like yesterday. Time is of no consequence it is what can be achieved that counts. Memories and moments made here with our veterans and visitors can never be forgotten their story will live on no matter what. It is the most humbling and gratifying knowing you have made an impression and helped others during your life time and made a difference before you leave this earth.... A big thank you to anyone who has helped WYR evolve and carry on the work it does by preserving protecting and presenting our veterans story and artefacts for all our future generations.

A difference a day can make a big improvement. A massive thank you to Paul McCann Gordon Wilson Julie Wilson and David for helping out today team work at its best. All electrics upgraded fitted tested and signed off. A bit to be done yet to complete but can't wait till it's complete. Also a special thank you to Sandra from Ballyclare Library for the very kind donations to be added to the wartime house.

A very long day and I am very happy with the progress made. I know it doesn't look like much further on but Mel will vouch for all the wiring and install is a time consuming task we had to move and rewire transformers for low voltage led lighting in cabinet and display cases trench and house. Move crate to hold pc electric light sockets etc. Move sound system amplifier and speakers. Carried on with wood work to complete cabinet. Tomorrow's another day tasks will be to rewire ...from meter board 2 x 16amp breakers and heavy duty cable and plugsockets for water boilers continue wood work above rear door. Stain woodwork move large carpet resandbag WW1 trench dress tables hoover clean dust and I can't thank everyone enough who has helped or supported the work we do for our veterans and preserving their story at WYR in anyway over the years and especially since the devastating flood this year which we are still dealing with its consequences. I apologise for any inconvenience caused to those wishing to visit but due to health and safety reasons we can't open till all works complete.

What an amazing afternoon out at War Years Remembered - History Museum. This is a must for your ‘Bucket List’ go and visit this fantastic treasure trove to see the many war memorabilia artefacts collected and learn about the history of both World Wars and much more from the very knowledgable host David McCallion. He told us interesting stories on how the war affected Northern Ireland. He made it fun and interesting to suit all ages..... from 7 to 94yo in our group.

Please support David and his team of volunteers on this very worthwhile cause.

User

What a hidden gem! I can't wait to go back and do it all again! Such a fantastic exhibition covering both world wars locally and across the world. An amazing array of weapons, vehicles and uniforms along with an incredible display of memorabilia. Staff are absolutely lovely and did I mention how much I want to go back..........

User

What a find!! An amazing collection. Met 'Mac" and he is so full of passion for this aspect of our shared history in NI. Really appreciated getting hands on with some of the artefacts. Really couldn't recommend this place highly enough especially when we heard all the education going on too. Keep up the good work Mac and we both support everything you do. See you again soon. Visited last week with my Year 4 class. They learned so much more from David in one day than I could ever have taught them in the classroom. The best kind of school trip is when the children learn without even realising it - they said afterwards that it was the best school trip ever. Would recommend to any school studying WW 2.

User

This place is fantastic. Educational for kids and adults. Great job guys. And thankyou so much for letting my Son keep a bible from first world war to pass on through our family! We had a brilliant time.

User

One of the best wartime museums I have visited, you will be immersed in history throughout WW1 and 2 while realizing the part Ireland played. Authentic and rare items ranging from heavy machinery to small personal items from the soldiers. David is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and more than happy to answer any questions you may have!

This is a must visit for anyone with an interest or passion for history, especially WW1 and 2. I will be back for sure!

User

On behalf of the members of The Classic Rover Club (NI) who visited today, I would like to say a huge thank you to David and the other volunteers who hosted us. We were astounded by the amount of stuff on display and were enthralled with David's stories and astounded by his knowledge. If you haven't visited the musuemn before, book a visit, you won't be disappointed. Thanks David.

User

My 8 year old son absolutely loves this place, he has been lots of times, and Davy and staff are fantastic with him. He has learnt so much about the war he could even teach me amazing displays, the best I've seen yet. Well done guys the work you have put in really shows. I'm sure Rio and I will be back again for another visit soon

User

I took my granddaughter today she had an absolutely amazing time. She got to put on a uniform and got to join up world war one style from signing with dip pen to being weighed and measured. She then got her world war 1 gospel of st john and her 5p shilling days wages.

I have been before but now its absolutely amazing. There have been so many changes always something different to see. If you have never been why not? Brilliant for children and adults alike.

See how our parents and grandparents lived during the war years as well a one of a kind collection of military and social history.

David is a brilliant story teller he takes everyone back in time, when showing you around.

User

I have been to many war museums in my time but a visit to War Years Remembered is without question one of the best. The attention to detail is second to none. I received a personal tour from owner David McCallion who showed an immense amount of pride and passion into his life's work of collecting war related items. That to me was very special. There are so many rare and valuable pieces on display that you are left in awe.

Specially constructed rooms of a house during WW2 fully knitted out with original every day household items is very clever. The music and the battle sounds really round out the atmosphere. Top Notch David.

Thank you once again for a fantastic afternoon.

Kind regards

Jim
