Yasmin was honoured today to be asked to speak at Coleraine Colleges morning assembly on behalf of ZGBTST.
She spoke to the students about the story of Zachary, the development and idea of ZGBTST and what the trust offers the local community!
It’s important to engage in the youth of our community, as they are our future and more involvement, commitment and perseverance needs to be put in place to protect their mental wellbeing.

ZGBTST was honoured to be a part of a momentous community event with the reopening of Morellis Portstewart as the beneficiary charity yesterday afternoon.
Thanks to everyone who came down to support both the Morellis and the Geddis’. Yasmin was happy to be asked to say some words reflecting the work that the trust provides the community and she was very pleased to see some of the youth she mentors supporting her during this local event.
If you haven’t called down to the new... store - everything is amazing from the colour scheme right down to the great staff and management!
ZGBTST would like to thank the whole Morelli family for the opportunity and for their continuous support to our work, our message and our family.
You can read about the event below!

‘Minds have their own weather systems. You are in a hurricane. Hurricanes run out of energy eventually. Hold on’ - Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig.
The quote above is one of my favourites from my 5 books in 5 weeks challenge - it symbolises the hurricane of the mind, how someone feels mid battle. It’s how I can feel at times when I want segregated from the world, retreat to bed and wait until the storm passes.
... It represents the constant twirl of thoughts, paranoia and sadness all coming at once. Symbolises the Darkness that appears during the storm, but remember after darkness comes light.
Just know the inflammation of the mind will pass, the darkness will end and the light will come, just like during a storm.
Hold on.

How To Talk To Someone Who Is Depressed.
5 key ways to communicate with your loved one, friend or collegue that is showing worrying signs of depression.
'The reason why ZGBTST was started was to share Zachary's experiences to deter another from feeling like him, to raise the profile of mental health and the importance to distigmatise suicide, however, as I develop, watch and change, the story of ZGBTST is much beyond anything I have experienced before and not every person I... meet or attempt to help is the same'

I was in counselling until December 2018. My family contacted the Bereaved by Suicide Team in 2017 as my brother died in London we had fallen through the net and she didn’t know what had happened us.
I had seen the same woman for counselling for over a year. I had to keep getting referrals and readmission forms sent to inspire which took weeks for me sitting panicking to be cleared only to be continually let down. They didn’t see me as someone who needed help enough to give... me more than 4 sessions at a time.
Counsellor’s take long holidays at the most crucial points of the year, my father went missing over Christmas, admitted to the Ross Thompson and 5 days later I suffered an ovary rupture that caused me to loose so much blood I nearly died all which I texted my counsellor.
My counsellor lied to me and my trust in her left so I stopped seeing her in December - 4 months have passed with not a check up or phone call from the bereaved by suicide team. When a family member dies by suicide, the statistics for another member of the same family to do the same is doubled.
I wasn’t given an exit, I wasn’t called or checked up on. My parents are begging me to speak to someone. I want to speak to someone who isn’t checking their watch every 10 minutes to see when the hour is up?
I don’t want to call between 9 and 12.30 - what if I have a break down at 5pm? I don’t want to speak to an admin team?
I see young people who are struggling everyday for more than a hour at a time- as part of the Trusts objectives I am their mental health buddy. Their mother’s reached out to me to help them as the services no longer could - I hear their stories of their personal accounts with other people and it’s shocking to the core. I do this in my own time and voluntarily and even collect them from school and take them to appointments.
I have been lying in bed and answered the phone to my girls in distress, I was at the awards on Saturday night and just before my category was called, one of my girls rang me in distress. They are my number 1!
I am there for them 24/7 7 days a week because I know what it’s like not to have anyone - I won’t let them be without me, their trust in me is the world and it’s part of my life now because that’s the decision I have made.
The lack of support and the let down I have received is one of the reasons I keep fighting for them.
It’s not just a job, it’s someone’s life.
It’s someone, who, if they keep letting them down, might not see tomorrow.
Guess I won’t be calling her for a review.

Following on from the success of my two previous blog posts - I want to share my Open Letter To My Dad which was written in 2017 - unknown to us what the future held.
This post was written to remind my Dad of the importance he plays in our lives but also to help other fathers who have also experienced loss.

My Blog was started before I launched ZGBTST - it was through my writing that I realised how many people resonated with my story and found comfort through my blog.
Below is a piece I wrote on my 25th Birthday - the first Birthday I had without my Brother.
I will be sharing previous blog posts with you all over the next few days before the installment of my latest piece of writing. ... https://theoriginalsuperstar.com/2017/08/ 06/307/

The application for this years £1000 Art Bursary donated to NWRC by ZGBTST closes on Friday 19th April!
The Art Bursary is a yearly dedication from the Trust to NWRC for a potential student to recieve financial support for their transition from College to University.
We spoke to last years winner Laura Miller on how the bursary helped her:
... ‘The bursary has helped me immensely with starting out my life at university. Art supplies are often very expensive, and this bursary has relieved me of any financial stress regarding the costs of starting up my practice in a different country with limited supplies. I highly recommend everyone apply for this bursary as it has set me up for an Amazing first year at university.’
We are looking forward to reveiwing the students applications and seeing their work they have did throughout the year!
