1 Smile Dental Clinic

A taste of America right here in Glasgow. I lived in the US and going to the dentist there is more akin to visiting a used car lot than seeing a medical practitioner. They want to take out healthy wisdom teeth, sign you up for teeth whitening sessions, sell you toothbrushes, the works. You can't trust anything they say because they're just trying to sell you stuff as opposed to give you appropriate medical care.

I got the same terrible vibe coming to 1 Smile. Immediately after the x-rays, the sales pitch started. "Well, you can get the amalgam fillings, but they're no good. I'd highly recommend the composite fillings." Not a quote but that was the gist of it. She suggested that the composite fillings are stronger. If anything, my understanding is the complete opposite. The amalgam fillings are stronger.

But the composite fillings were significantly more expensive. That was her true motivation for pushing them. And I found out later that not only were they more expensive relative to amalgam fillings, they were more expensive relative to what other surgeries in the area charge for composite fillings.

Behaviour like this erodes confidence in the profession. I believe that dentists should be paid a good salary. Are they not getting it from NHS treatment? If not, they should be. But gouging the patients with unnecessary treatments is not the way forward.

I was also charged £4 for this initial consultation. "Wait a minute...I don't remember ever being charged for an NHS dentist visit like this." But £4, I can swing that.

The receptionist/dental nurse is screaming, thinking that I'm leaving without payment. "It's £4! You have to pay!".

So I get to the counter and she mumbles something while looking at her screen. I didn't understand a word she says so I ask her to repeat. She mumbles something again, still staring at the screen. I still don't hear anything so I lean in and ask her to repeat again. She says, "forget it" and her colleague is nearly doubled over laughing as if to say, "Get a load of this guy! He doesn't understand the Scottish accent!"

I didn't understand not because of her accent but because she's an ill-mannered buffoon mumbling to herself while avoiding eye contact with a patient.

I paid the £4 but needless to say, I did not return for any follow up appointment. All of my dental experiences in the UK have been excellent. This place was awful.

This is the worst dentist I've ever been to! I only came here because my previous dentist had retired and I was looking for someone closer but what a mistake I made. This dentist said I needed two fillings but she was going to do them one at a time so I got the first filling and a few hours later it fell out! (I didnt even eat or drink anything) so I went back and she 'fixed' it and then went back again to get my second filling done but after that I started getting pains on both sides of my mouth everytime I ate so once again back to see her and she was making excuses because she didnt know what happened so she 'fixed' it once again and sent me off and now today my first filling has fell out again so Im no longer going back because that's three mistakes she's made so I've now ditched them and moved to another practice.

I had my very first fillings done here , about two to three days later they had fallen out , so disappointed with the service, the staff were very unfriendly ,not welcoming at all, i have now changed to a different practice.
