About 105 Regiment Royal Artillery Official

A Close Support Gun Regiment based in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

105 Regiment Royal Artillery Official Description

105th Regt RA
Advanced Systems

The Scottish and Ulster Gunners are a Field Artillery Unit. We use the Army’s most versatile Gun – the 105mm L118 Light Gun – also used by the Parachute and Commando Field Artillery Regiments of the British Army.
The Light Gun can be towed by a medium-weight vehicle (such as a Pinzgauer TUM /HD or Hagglund BV206 all-terrain vehicle) or carried around the battlefield under slung by a Puma or Chinook helicopter.
Royal Artillery L118 Light Guns are fitted with an Automatic Pointing System, which enables the gun to be unlimbered and in action in 30 seconds. APS is based on an inertial navigation system; operated via a touch screen.

Role
Fire Support Teams (FSTs)
Our light role regiment is organised into Fire Support Teams (FSTs) to find the enemy and our gun batteries provide the firepower for the strike. Our dismounted FSTs find the enemy on the battlefield using lightweight lasers, MSTAR radars, thermal imaging and night vision equipment. Once the enemy location is identified, the FST coordinates guns, mortars, attack helicopters and fast jets to deliver a devastating strike.
Command Post
The Command Post is the “brains” of the unit. Taking information from the FSTs and calculating the gun data using an advanced Firing Computer, in order for the guns to strike the target with pinpoint accuracy.
Guns
Our three gun batteries equipped with Light Guns are highly mobile, accurate and pack a lethal punch. The 6 soldier Gun Detachments are the work horses of the unit, working as close knit teams to deliver fire in all weather conditions, day or night.
Logistics
Logistics soldiers form the backbone of the Royal Artillery. Without drivers, chefs and logistics specialists resupplying the Batteries with ammunition, food, water etc we simply could not function.

Great social to round off a great year at 105 Regiment RA. It’s been a very busy time. Thanks to the RAO Major Sarah Allardice for organising the lunch.

Tonight in the ARC at Colinton those who have been on Exercise Sea Trout or Exercise Dealan Base got together for a St Barbara meal which rounded off a great annual camp. The Commanding Officer presented the awards for best Gun Detachment, the sports day winning team and regimental coins to those who went the extra mile. He also gave bars to SNCOs from 212 and 278 Bty for service to the reserves and a 4th bar to The Regimental QM Capt Dennis Paterson. Well done to everyone who contributed.

Exercise Sea Trout is drawing close and I will put our final video for all to view once the Exercise has ended. But just to show you what a great time we have had here are a few pictures and video clips, ranging from the guns firing, visiting the Battle Site of mount Tumbledown and other memorable days out

Today, 100 personnel from 105 Regiment, 5 Regt RA, 3RHA and an officer from The Household Cavalry went on a Battlefield Tour to Mount Tumbledown and Mount Longdon then afterward laid a wreath at the memorial in Port Stanley. Very interesting day but very moving. Rest inPeace to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice and nots let us forget the civilians and merchant seaman.

Just a quick tune from Sgt Mitchell on Exercise Sea Trout while waiting to move

Final day on the Exercise Area for 105 Regiment and culminating with Artillery Target with the Coldstream Guards Mortars. Brilliant training for all involved with lots of ordinance fired with loads of different missions. Everyone contributed in one way or another and valuable lessons learnt from which we will all benefit

User

Vehicles and Guns plus Echelon ready to leave will be fun with lots of Ammunition to fire. Life in 105 is never dull.

User

Final bits of preparation before we deploy onto the Exercise Area for 4 days of Firing. Last 2 days we will be joined by the Resident Infantry Battalion with their Mortars and jets from the Typhoon Squadron.

User

Action packed morning as the soldiers from 105, 3RHA and 5 Regt RA prepare the vehicles and Guns ready to deploy on Exercise Sea Trout in the Falklands. Will be fun and more to follow throughout the week
