A message from former OC Derek Thomson
"Good Day All,
Finally, I have managed to brave the technique of raising a Facebook Closed Group site headed as above. Those who wish to join simply apply to myself on the site & I will admit members of 662 to the group although some of you may wish the group open to other deserving individuals. I am sure many of you have kept in touch directly in the varied ways of social media but I hope this site will bring together many who have lost... touch. If the desire is there it may be we can find a suitable time & venue for a get together in some form, but if not we can, at least, keep in touch.
Kind regards & fond memories.
Derek Thomson Laburnum"

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that after 61 years of history, 662 VGS is to be disbanded along with several other VGS' across the UK. Gliding in Scotland and Northern Ireland will continue solely at an expanded 661 VGS, at RAF Kirknewton, which will provide overnight accommodation to cadets.
Thank you to all who have shared in our history and flown at 662 along the way. You may read the official release here:

How many of you have flown in this?
Knowing these things are very important to all Pilots but especially to Glider Pilots! :)

Coming to a VGS near you soon!
Great news!
When we return to flying we will be using these new state of the art winches built by Skylaunch Limited :) We cannot wait!
The Gloster Meteor was the Royal Air Force's first Jet Fighter which made its first operational sortie on this day in 1944.
So while VGS flying is on standdown, our staff haven't stopped flying! One of our Flight Staff Cadets has been given the opportunity of a lifetime to fly across the Atlantic from Canada in the Piper Comanche pictured on top to raise money for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. FSC Rose (pictured on the bottom), who has been with 662 VGS since November 2011, will be the final passenger on the "Fly Round the World in 80 Days" trip undertaken by Dave McElroy in aid of the Air Amb...ulance.
The trip will take FSC Rose from Toronto in Canada, to Greenland and then onto Iceland before returning to Perth Airport around the 10th August. He will be accompanying his former Squadrons mascot home which has been circumnavigating the world with Dave.
If you would like to help fundraise for the Air Ambulance you can visit his Just Giving page at the following address: https://www.justgiving.com/MichaelAtlanti cCrossing/
We wish FSC Rose the best of luck with his trip and safe flying.
