New turns at the bottom of the Cresta Run at Innerleithen are nearly ready and we’re super stoked with how they’re riding!
We had an awesome Big Dig weekend recently with 60 volunteers digging their socks off to create the new section. This week Mtb Ranger’s Andy, Mark and Georgina are cracking on with some final tweaks - ready for reopening this Saturday afternoon (from about 1.30pm). 😀 Before that on Saturday morning we’ve got a Glentress Trailfairies volunteer session doing some final fettling on the section from 9am to 12pm, meeting at the Innerleithen car park - if anyone’s able to lend a hand that’d be awesome!
Massive thank you to everyone who’s helped dig and supported the revamp - with Adrenalin Uplift, Forestry Commission Scotland, Tweed Valley Trails Association, TweedLove, DMBinS, i-cycles

The trails at Newcastleton were riding really well today and the forest was so...GREEN! Check out these pictures from Mtb Ranger Andy’s trail inspection!
The trails were damp but quite grippy and the trail edge vegetation is still quite low after being strimmed in mid June. And that last descent back to Rock UK - Whithaugh Park is as fun as ever!! 😀

This feels more normal! Rain, puddles and grippy trails - on the Black Mtb Route at Glentress this morning.
Mtb Ranger Andy picked the wettest part of the day for a trail inspection 🤦‍♂️ All good though and the forecast for the weekend is looking pretty dry. 😀

User

Did you get the thunderstorm last night? Wow! The trails in the Tweed Valley will be a little damper this morning!! ⛈

Following a fantastic Take Care of Your Trails weekend back in April revamping the bottom of the Gold Run, the Big Dig is back this weekend coming at Innerleithen (28th/29th July, 9am - 1pm each day). This time we'll be working on the Cresta Run revamping the section just before the final gully and also the bombhole line that feeds into it.
Fancy helping dig some new turns? There's still a few spaces available for Saturday and Sunday. It's free to sign up and Adrenalin Up...lift are very kindly providing food and beverages for all volunteers after the sessions and there are spot prizes to be won!

We can't wait to get digging! - with Forestry Commission Scotland mtb Ranger's, Adrenalin Uplift, Tweed Valley Trails Association, TweedLove and DMBinS

Big thank you to Cameron who’s been on work experience this week helping the Mtb Ranger team on the trails at Glentress and Innerleithen as well as spending time with our Rec staff on the new walking trails at Cardrona Forest and with staff in other parts of Forestry Commission Scotland looking at conservation, harvesting/felling and forest management.
On the trails Cameron’s helped with repairing timber trails on Magic Mushroom, mellowing out a sharp hole/dip on XX, installing waymarkers and checking strimming work at Innerleithen, blocking shortcut lines on the Admiral, pruning overhanging branches and lots of clearing loose stones off turns. Been a busy week!

User

Oh my! The new salad and sandwich bar at the Peel Cafe, Glentress is looking A M A Z I N G! Great work Val and the team.
The cafe is open daily from 9am - 5pm. Feeling hungry now!!

What an incredible spell of weather we’re having! 😎☀️☀️☀️ Here’s how the Innerleithen XC Trail was looking yesterday - super dry and dusty though slippy in places with loose stones.
Mtb Ranger Andy was out inspecting the route, checking for safety and trail quality issues and doing wee bits of maintenance along the way. Lots of small branches flung off the trails and a few small snapped trees cleared, some overhanging branches pruned back and brambles trimmed. Also spotte...d a waymarker missing from the exit of Stell Burn Climb and the emergency post info at the Minch summit missing as well.. We’ll get these replaced and a cracked silver birch tree hanging over Taniel Hill Climb is getting cleared this morning. The trail side bracken and grasses are getting up in places (Plora Craig and Razor Rock especially) - strimming work for Innerleithen is pencilled in for mid July. We’ll confirm exact dates here and on our web trail conditions when we get them https://scotland.forestry.gov.uk/…/twee d-vall…/innerleithen… Cheers!

It’s the Whyte British Enduro Champs, the biggest Enduro race in the UK this year, in the Tweed Valley this weekend!
We’ve just completed a new section of hand dug trail at Glentress for the event - here’s a peek at how the final two turns and exit are riding!
We had just under 3 weeks to get the line in, part of our (Forestry Commission Scotland’s) support of this high profile event. Mtb Ranger’s Andy, Mark and Georgina have been working flat out on the build but it woul...dn’t have happened without a small army of people giving up their time to help dig. Thank you SO much! Glentress Trailfairies TweedLove Tweed Valley Trails Association DMBinS
The new 200m long section is the final part of Stage 6 at the bottom of Janet’s Brae. Close to Peebles and the Tweedlove festival village on Tweed Green, it will be a great spot to watch the racing on Sunday.
And from Monday (11th Jun) the trail will be open for everyone to ride! Graded Black it’s got lots of flow but some tight, steep falling catch turns. The section will link the bottom of the Fort/Dave’s unwaymarked trails to the exit at the start of the Sustrans path, a new alternative to the original walkers path nearby.
The Whyte British Enduro Champs are part of loads going on this weekend at the Big Tweedlove Festival weekend - check out http://tweedlove.com/2018-event-…/tweed love-on-the-green2018

User

Wet and misty in the Tweed Valley this afternoon. ⛈🙄 Good weather for dampening down the dust!

User

Amazing what a bit of pruning can do to open a trail back up! Here’s a before and after from this morning working on the exit of ‘New Luge’, an unwaymarked line at Innerleithen. Thanks very much to Gary from Adrenalin Uplift and Jack for helping out.
Cheers, Andy & Georgina (Mtb Ranger’s)
