Really enjoyed a visit to Sir Walter Scott's home. The tour was extremely informative and interesting giving a wonderful insight into his life and that if his family. Well worth a stop when touring UK!

Being Scottish I expect most of our historic houses and tours to be dry and dusty. I was amazed to find Abbotsford a fabulous 2 hour trip with excellent audioguide and helpful volunteers. The grounds are pleasant, the Tweed serene and the play park a riveting hour for the kids.

Good food in the cafe although 3.30 for a flat white to take out is insane. The grey pound and bus tours love this place so perhaps supply and demand are to blame.....

Brilliant audio tour, the house is lovely and the grounds especially along the River Tweed are truly inspirational. We got a good deal in that you can upgrade your ticket for further visits for a whole year for nothing. We have decided to return next time with a picnic to have down by the river picnic site.

Very atmospheric visit to the house. Lovely walled garden still colourful in late September. Informative free exhibition. Delicious cakes in the restaurant but be prepared to wait. Service is slow.

I absolutely loved this place!! If you are as obsessed with Sir Walter Scott as I am, then you Have to see his house. Even for those who don't know much about the author it is worth a trip. He was a huge history buff and collector. His library alone is worth a visit as it takes up two whole rooms in the house! Castle is actually a better word to describe this place. It also has large grounds including gardens, trails and it has a lovely river running next to it. Perfect for the whole family. I would, however, recommend packing a lunch as the restaurant is not that great and very expensive. The gift shop also left more to be desired as it barely had anything from Walter. I expected the full book collection in varying copies and styles, or even used books and collectors items but not really much there.

Full of literary history and a beautiful place to visit.

Great place! Lovely historical place.

Brilliant place. Your of his house is very cleverly done where you can wonder round at your own pace. Your ticket allows you access for 12 months from your first visit. Visitor centre also does fantastic food.
