Abc - Albany Book Club Lanark

At ABC children will explore the fun and pleasure of reading. They will develop their understanding and become confident readers.

The main aim of ABC is to foster a love of reading where children will be switched on to books. Reading is like learning to ride a bike – the more you do it the better you become! It is a skill that has so many benefits. ABC offers after school hourly sessions for P4 - P7 where children will be able to enjoy a wide selection of stimulating books in a homely environment. The sessions accommodate 4 children to allow for flexibility in reading. The children will participate in paired reading, reading alone and enjoy being read to. There will be exploration and discussion of books using a relaxed and engaging approach. I have recently resigned as a classroom teacher to follow my heart in setting up this new reading venture. It comes at a time where the government is recommending that schools focus on reading to raise attainment in literacy. I have 16 years teaching experience and am passionate about working with children directly in a motivating way. I would describe myself as enthusiastic, full of fun, with a genuine interest in encouraging the children to succeed. My own experience and expertise gives me the tools necessary to develop childrens’ understanding of what’s being read.
