Aberdeen Astronomical Society

About Aberdeen Astronomical Society

AAS was formed in 1969 and has a current membership of about 45. The society meets monthly (second Tuesday of the month) from September to May at the historic Cromwell Tower Observatory at King's College in Old Aberdeen . If the skies are clear we observe through the University of Aberdeen's 10" Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope (SCT), which is equipped with a webcam and computer guidance. An ongoing project is to refurbish the second dome to contain an AAS telescope. If the weather is cloudy then we have talks by guest speakers and members in an adjacent room (KCT2). Directions to the CTO are on our Contact AAS page. AAS is extremely grateful to the Department of Physics, University of Aberdeen for the use of the CTO. AAS also meets (fourth Tuesday of the month throughout the year) at The Bettridge Centre, Newtonhill www. bettridgecentre.org. uk, where we hold informal observing evenings (general public very welcome - minors must be accompanied).
