About Aberdeen Fungal Group

The Aberdeen Fungal Group was originally founded by Professors Graham Gooday (https://en. m. wikipedia.org/wiki /Graham_Gooday), Neil Gow (https://en. m. wikipedia.org/wiki /Neil_A. _R. _Gow) and Al Brown. After Graham's retirement, the group was joined by Professor Frank Odds, who added epidemiology, infection models and antifungal drug research to the group. When Frank Odds retired, Professor Gordon Brown joined the group adding immunology to the research portfolio. The group has grown researchers who now run their own groups as part of the AFG: Professor Carol Munro, Dr Donna MacCallum and Dr Alex Brand. Professor Neil Gow left the group in 2018 to become a deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Exeter. In 2019, the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology relocated to the University of Exeter, with PIs Professor Gordon Brown, Professor Al Brown, Dr Alex Brand, Dr Duncan Wilson and Dr Rhys Farrar.
