About Aberdeen Scottish Hellenic Society

The Aberdeen Scottish Hellenic Society was established in 1980, promoting the Hellenic culture in Scotland ever since. It constitutes a vibrant hub within the network of Greeks and Cypriots in the country, and above all, of people who appreciate and are fascinated by the Grecophone world. The Society regularly organises events of cultural significance within the Aberdeen Hellenic community: from folk music concerts, Greek film screenings or discourses on literature and Classical philosophy, to well-attended Easter celebrations with traditional dances and cuisine. In 2020, the first Hellenic School in Aberdeen was founded under the aegis of the Society. For the first time in North East Scotland, children of Greek and Cypriot descent can be educated in their heritage language and feel connected to their roots. Since its nascence, and with cultural impact ingrained in its mentality, the Society has been offering Modern Greek lessons to whomever wishes to learn it. The classes take place on the University of Aberdeen campus, hosting one of the world's oldest languages in one of Britain's oldest universities. Καλώς ήρθατε – Welcome!
