This looks like the first ever reference to William Burke (as in Burke & Hare infamy) in the Edinburgh Evening Courant newspaper dated Monday November 3rd 1828. Burke is referred to as 'Burt'.

In an ornate black box on the counter of The Cadies & Witchery Tours shop in Edinburgh's West Bow rests a fascinating gory relic from Scotland's grim past. This original artefact is a small calling-card case made out of the skin of the notorious "bodysnatcher" William Burke.
