For everyone who isn't on my mailing list - here are some updates on the new National Minimum Rates.
Please find the new National Minimum Wage rates, effective from 1st April 2019.
Β£8.21 per hour for ages 25 and over.
... Β£7.70 per hour for ages 21 to 24.
Β£6.15 per hour for ages 18 to 20.
Β£4.35 per hour for school leaving age to 17.
Β£3.90 per hour for apprentices.
The new rate will apply to the next pay reference period that begins on or after the date:
- a rate increase begins
- an employee reaches a new age bracket.
For example: an employee paid on the 20th of each month will start to receive the new rate of minimum wage from 21 April onwards.
If a worker receives above NMW there is no legal obligation on an employer to increase their pay when the NMW rate increases.
The difference between the National Living Wage and the Living Wage
The government's NLW is different from the Living Wage, which is an hourly rate of pay and updated annually.
The Living Wage is set independently by the Living Wage Foundation and is calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK. Employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis.
Payslips!!!!
This month there are important changes to the Employment Rights Act 1996 affecting payslip information:
1. Employers must include the total number of hours worked where the pay varies according to the hours worked, for example under variable hours or zero hour contracts.
2. Payslips must be given to 'workers' and not just employees.
If anyone needs further clarification on any of the details included here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Wow, it's been a while and as usual, I have no excuse except that things have been so busy!
Due to demand, I have started to offer Recruitment services for all clients, existing and new!
I offer a bespoke Recruitment solution, tailored to the needs of the business. My network stretches across the globe and my knowledge of recruitment process is second to none.
... A standard contingency arrangement that you get from an agency doesn't apply here. Posting a vacancy and sending CV's can be done by anyone and doesn't add value.
If you want to hire the best person possible for your business and at a very fair price, please get in touch.

Morning Everyone,
It has been a while since I posted, I really must get better at staying in touch!
The last few months have been busy and a lot of learnings have come from my clients, specifically in the services and support they need from me.
... Therefore, due to demand I am now offering the following services:
HR Interim - Need a specific piece of work handled? Something that your existing HR guys can't get to? Use the expertise of someone who can come in and get the job done quickly - minimum half a day applies and no ongoing contract required.
HR Coach - As with many companies, you may have someone managing HR who is junior or inexperienced. I now offer a coaching and mentoring service to support businesses who want to develop the capabilities of their HR staff.
Recruitment - Due to high demand from clients and my vast network, I now offer recruitment services. A standard, sensible fee applies and a fully dedicated service offered for any type of vacancy.
As always, don't be shy to ask. If I can't help, I will know someone who can!
Thanks everyone.

Hello everyone,
It's almost the end of another busy week. Most weeks for me are a mixed bag and I thrive on that.
Whilst I enjoy engaging with new clients and expanding my business, I also enjoy helping out where I can.
... If I can provide advice and point someone in the right direction, I get satisfaction from that too.
I guess what I'm saying is never be afraid to ask a question. If I can help you, I will. If I can't, I'll likely know someone who can.
Have a great evening!

Hello Again,
I am happy to say that I have recently taken on a few new, lovely clients. Surprisingly, I heard from these clients that some other HR companies out there are charging 3 or 4 times the amount that I charge.
Let's make this simple:
... Do you want to use a local company, with over 20 years' expertise to consult with you face to face in your office?
Or do you want to use a company based hundreds of miles away, who tell you to use a call centre number and charge you a fortune for it?
#nobrainer

Hello Everyone,
I know I am way overdue for a post, so here goes. Hopefully it will help some of you.
A number of recent queries that have come my way have been in relation to what notice period and payments an employee is due when a company terminates their contract.
... The quick answer to this is as follows:
If they have a contract of employment, there will usually be contractual terms which must be followed.
If they don't have a contract of employment, then they will be entitled to statutory employment rights.
If you don't have a clue where to start and need some guidance, give me a call or drop me an e-mail.
You will be surprised how cost effective our services are!
Have a good evening!

Good evening everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed the first day of spring!
I had a good day with one of my clients, as I was supporting them with some interviews - something that I am truly passionate about.
The interviews went well and we met some lovely people. However, one thing did stand out to me and I thought I should pass on this tip for any businesses or indeed applicants.
... Some of the people we interviewed had done no research on the business. They knew the name but had never done any research on the history of the company, the products or the clients it has.
From the employer's point of view - this creates a poor impression because in this day in age, information on any company is readily available. It gives the perception that the candidate does not really care about the company but instead, "just wants a job".
The tip - ask candidates what they know about your company when interviewing - you can learn a lot from that one, simple question.
From the candidate's point of view - researching the business you have applied to work for is pretty much a must nowadays. Why? Well it allows you to hold a discussion about some of the successes of the company and anything that has particularly impressed you. It also means that you can tailor some of the answers you give, creating a great impression.
The tip - researching a company should start as soon as you have applied for a job, if not before. People who create businesses are proud of what they have done and it shows respect and genuine interest if you can show enthusiasm via your knowledge of the company.
Have a good week! Thanks again for all the support from everyone!
