A fantastic service to fully support cancer patients and their Carers. Having attended today it was an inspiration to see the hard work and support that is there for patients and their carers. Airlie has a cancer support group which is held on the last Monday of the month - if you are or have been affected by cancer please come along for a friendly chat and catch up - our next surgery group is Monday 28th January at 2.00pm at the surgery!

New Year Holidays:
Just a reminder we are open from 8:30am - 5:30am tomorrow (Monday) and then the practice will be closed on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd January.
Please bear this in mind when ordering prescriptions as these will take longer than the usual 48 hours to process.
... The practice will reopen on Thursday 3rd January at 8:30am.
NHS 24 will provide cover as normal while we are closed. If you think that someone's life is at risk you should phone 999 immediately.
We wish you all a very healthy 2019.

Day 11 of our Christmas countdown......
As most schools and workplaces close for the holidays just remember to have everything in moderation. If you deny yourself treats you'll only want them all the more and may end up overindulging. Treat yourself to a little of what you fancy, share a pudding, try a smaller glass and when the sun shines wrap up and go out for a nice winters walk.

On the 10th day of Christmas is a link to NHS 24 out of hours guide.
This link explains how to get the appropriate treatment when the practice is closed and also when the out of hours service should and should not be used. Why not take a few minutes to check out the link before we close for the weekend and then the public holidays.
Its worth noting if you think that someone's life is at risk you should phone 999 immediately.
... They also have some handy self help guides which could be an alternative to calling the out of hours service.

On the 9th day of Christmas (not long to go).....
Is a reminder that it takes us 48 hours to organise and prepare repeat prescriptions, if you are needing medication by Monday (Christmas Eve) please make sure your repeat slip or note is with us by 5:30 tomorrow.
NHS 24 have also put together a handy guide on things you may want to pick up to do you over the festive period. Most of these can be picked up from your local pharmacy who are also open on a Saturday (check times lo...cally).

On the 8th day of Christmas...
www.nhsinform.scot show us with this handy guide it's not always the GP you require. The various healthcare professionals shown below are all experts in their field of work and can provide a lot of help in times of need.
This is also the case within the surgery, as well as GP's and nurses we also have a team consisting of a Nurse Practitioner, Phlebotomists, Health Care Assistants and midwifes to name but a few. By letting our receptionists kno...w which type of appointment you are looking for could mean less time to wait on an appointment as they can direct you to the most appropriate clinician.
Screen shot or save the picture below for quick reference when you may require help and assistance

On the 7th day of Christmas...
Our tip to you today should help keep away any unwanted sickness. There is too much to do and people to see at this time of year and food not cooked properly could jeopardise any plans. Food Standards Scotland is a great website to use for ideas and suggestions to keep any food poisoning at bay.

On the 6th day of Christmas......
Airlie Medical Practice like to think of others. It's always a good thing to look out for any elderly neighbours, friends and family and those less fortunate than others.
Things like checking blinds and curtains have been opened to popping in with some extra or left over hot food that would normally end up in the bin could help someone in these vulnerable groups out. A little smile or a quick hello can make someone's day who maybe does not... hear or see from anyone else.
This year instead of sending Christmas cards within the surgey we decided to donate a selection box which will be handed to Alex Little Funeral Directors to give the less fortunate.
Also this year we have donated to the food bank and Macmillan Cancer all with your help and we thank you for your continued support through the year

It's the 5th day of our Christmas countdown and 7 more working days to go.
Today's handy tip, helping NHS Fife tackle medicine waste. Attached to your repeat prescription or bag from your pharmacy you will find information on how to reduce medicine waste.
Medicine waste cost NHS Fife 2.1 million last year.
... Ways to help include, only ordering what you need, don't stockpile medicines and if you are ever admitted to the hospital take in your own stock of medication.
See the link below on information related to medicine waste

On the 4th day of Christmas here is our top tip.....
If you are going away during the festive period, remember to pack your medication and it is always a good idea to take a copy of your repeat slip with you. Remember however your medication and repeat slip contain personal information to you including your name and date of birth. Please be mindful of this and do not leave it lying where someone else can access this information.
If you are flying and your airline allows, carr...y your medication in your hand luggage so it is with you at all times and less chance of becoming lost if you lose your luggage.
