Al-Maktoum College Of Higher Education Description

Welcome to Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education. On every level, the College is a place where potential and ability is valued over background or ethnicity. It is an establishment where further and higher education is available and welcome to all.

Our aim is simple. We aspire to grow as an independent, internationally recognised centre of Higher Education. The College focuses on lifelong learning through academic, technical and customised programmes recognised by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

We are specialists. Our intellectual endeavours are dedicated to building bridges between the communities- namely ‘western’ and ‘Muslim’- that make up our city, nation and world today. In this all-inclusive approach to education, we believe, the College is a somewhat unique establishment in Scotland and the UK today.

Small in size but great in our ambition, we embrace differences, tolerance and breadth of understanding as the key to meeting the challenges of the 21st Century.

Discover Diversity. Discover Al-Maktoum College.

FROM A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY
We don’t reckon Oscars or BAFTAS will be coming our way any time soon.
But Al-Maktoum College can now reveal its short video for the Penguin Parade, the special artistic project to help raise funds for Maggie’s Centre Dundee.
... Our penguin sculpture has a Star Wars theme so that is reflected in our video, shot on location at our Blackness Road campus, with Darth Vader’s grandson making a lightsaber-wielding cameo appearance.
Our Star Wars Jedi penguin, designed by Kiwi artist, Mandi Pope, will be in a parade of individually decorated penguins that will feature on the streets of Dundee and surrounding area for three months this summer from June 29.
“It was fun making the short video with the daft Star Wars ending and we hope it will prove popular and amuse people,” said Linda Gibson, recruitment and marketing officer at the College.
“We are delighted to be involved in this great campaign for Maggie’s Centre and we are looking forward to our penguin taking its place in the parade.”
Maggie’s Centre Dundee, in partnership with Wild in Art, developed the penguin parade, which is being backed by local sponsors and 100 smaller penguins are going to all local schools and community groups
The aim is to raise significant funds to support Maggie’s vital work in caring for local people affected by cancer and to raise awareness.

Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education has welcomed its biggest ever group of overseas female students – 74 in total – to its 2018 Summer School.
This is the 26th such educational programme since the first ever Summer School of 2003 and more than 1,200 students have travelled to Dundee to participate in that time.
“The arrival of the 74 students from 17 different institutions proves the enduring popularity of our programmes and the desire to visit Scotland,” said College Secr...etary, Dr Abi Abubaker.
“Over the next three weeks, we will be encouraging students to learn more about Scotland, its people, its history, culture and traditions in the contemporary world.”
The Summer School study topics include Scottish history and culture, globalisation and multiculturalism, Muslim women and leadership, and presentation plus civilisational dialogue.
Dundee Lord Provost, Ian Borthwick welcomed the students to Dundee during a visit to the College today (Wed, June 20). He said: “These Al-Maktoum College programmes are hugely popular so I hope this latest group enjoys the experience and the warmest of welcomes from the people of Dundee and Scotland.”
