The DEESIDE STROKE GROUP is a Stroke Association Voluntary Group who hold a weekly exercise class in Aboyne, geared to the needs of stroke survivors and those who suffer from neurological diseases, eg MS. There is support from a qualified Physiotherapist and access to the Aboyne community gym if you wish.
The group is funded by donations so there is a small charge to to cover the Physiotherapist's costs and meeting room hire.
... At the moment, classes are held in Aboyne, however, consideration may be given to classes in Alford, dependent on demand.
If you think this would benefit yourself or someone you know, contact Eric or Anna (details below).
You are guaranteed a warm welcome and a friendly face so given them a call and find out more about this great voluntary service and how they can help you!

Please Share on behalf of CLAN Cancer Support Service: ALFORD
CLAN Cancer Support has been providing free wellbeing and support services from its Drop In Support Centres across North East Scotland, Orkney and Shetland for many years now.
We are now in a position to expand further within the community and are delighted to announce the addition of support services, based at Alford Community Library, Greystone Road.
... CLAN’s wellbeing and support services are available to anyone affected by cancer whether a patient, carer, family member or friend. This includes one-to-one support, counselling, specialist children and family support, complementary therapies, wellbeing support groups, nutrition workshops and a range of group activities.
The Alford Drop In and Support Services will be open from: 10am to 12 noon on Tuesdays 4th September, 2nd October and 6th November for an initial pilot period of 3 months.
It is hoped that the availability of CLAN services within the town will be beneficial to the community by ensuring local support is readily accessible to those affected by cancer, whilst also reducing some of the travel and associated costs involved for families and patients accessing support further afield.
To help shape our services to best meet community needs, we invite you to join us at a stakeholders meeting on Tuesday 28th August at 10.30am at Alford Library Community Room.
We hope that you can attend and share your thoughts and views with us.

ALFORD MEDICAL PRACTICE NEWS
We are pleased to announce that a new GP, DR DOUGLAS NAISMITH, will be joining the practice on Wednesday, 1 August 2018.
... We appreciate your patience and understanding over the past few weeks with regards to the lack of pre-bookable appointments. We have been trying desperately to source locum cover, to no no avail, but we continue to ensure that any patient who needs to be seen, will be, albeit by the Duty Doctor rather than a GP of choice.
It is disappointing that, over the last three months, 309 patients have failed to attend their appointments (138 GP and 171 Nurse), equating to a minimum of 50 hours of lost appointments, which has also had an impact on availability.
However, we should be able to improve the appointment situation from August onwards and look forward to welcoming Dr Naismith to the practice.

We are also proud to be a part of such a great organisation and wish to thank everyone involved in the Service, past and present, for all their hard work and dedication.
Here's to to the next 70!

HAYFEVER SEASON
We've had a fantastic few weeks of sunny, dry weather but unfortunately, it also means a high pollen count which can cause hayfever.
If you, or someone you know, is suffering from the symptoms of hayfever (sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, runny nose), pay a visit to your local Pharmacist who will be happy to provide treatment and advice.
... Further self-help advice on summer-related conditions can be found within the NHS Inform website (www.nhsinform.scot/self-help-guides). The Know Who to Turn To website (http://www.know-who-to-turn-to.com) also offers a full directory of the services on offer and when you should use them.

Please share with friends and family who care for someone with dementia - thanks.
The Herbert Protocol is here to give you some reassurance and help keep your loved ones safe. The system provides the police with everything they need to know to search for the person living with the dementia.
The Herbert Protocol is national scheme being rolled out across the North East of Scotland by Police Scotland in conjunction with NHS Grampian, Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership,... Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership, Moray Health and Care Social Partnership, Alzheimer Scotland and VSA.
A form, containing important information regarding known routines, habits as well as descriptions of your friend/relative and details of their and others involved with their care, can be completed and kept at home.
Should your loved one be reported missing, the form can be handed to Police so that you do not have to worry about gathering the information during what can be a very stressful time.
You can download the form from http://www.scotland.police.uk/herbertprot ocol
It should be kept up-to-date so that all the information is relevant and current. A recent photograph should also be kept with the form.

We have been advised that the telephone number of the local MS Society group, based in Aberdeen, has been changed. It is now 07561 855318.
We would be grateful if you could share this so that those who may need to contact the group has the correct details to do so.
Many thanks.
