1 billion women experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. ALICAS creates tailored capsule clothing parcels for women who have fled abusive relationships, using repurposed retail stock. Returned goods and terminal (end-of-line) retail stock costs clothing retailers in excess of £60bn per year. Most of it is stored in costly warehouses before being destroyed by landfill, incineration or shredding. Retailers are actively looking for ways to shift stock through warehouses without devaluing their brand. ALICAS intercepts this waste by asking retailers to ‘pay-forward' a proportion of their surplus stock to women in need - supporting retailers' environmental responsibilities and CSR initiatives.
