Allandoo Pheasantry Description

We have rare and ornamental pheasant species for sale throughout the year. Some species of pheasant are extremely colourful, others have great character and some are intricately marked or even very delicate birds but all are wonderful aviary birds and many are very easy to look after.

One of our few young Elliot hens we have available for sale at the moment. They are £45 each. Unfortunately we do not have cock birds left for the girls but will have this year's hatch available in the Autumn so hopefully we'll have a good supply of new Elliot's, including cock birds, available then.

From Alan and myself to all our beautiful customers and lovely followers, have a wonderful Christmas. If you need time to chill out away from the hectic celebrations just nip out to your birds. They never fail to calm the nerves and relax the senses. Love to you all. <3

One of our Himalayan Monal Pheasant cocks at Allandoo Pheasantry. These birds are always one of the star attractions for visitors due to their rainbow of colours and the wonderful glow of their plumage in the sunshine. The iridescence is possible due to the tight smoothness of the birds feathers and is one of the most fantastic sights to see. The size, weight and general sturdiness including the extremely powerful beak of the Monal is also impressive. They have been hunted in the wild for both their feathers and their meat but our birds will spend a safe, happy, Christmas away from the dining table.

A Mikado cock at Allandoo Pheasantry. We've found the Mikados to be pretty tough wee pheasants. They're very hardy and not likely to be too shy or scatty. Don't be fooled though their tameness may well be a plot to lull you into a false sense of security 'cause if you are holding them they will seem quite content until you relax your grip for one millisecond in which they will make a quick bid for their freedom - you have been warned! Their reflexes are super quick. In our experience, they are normally among the quietest of our pheasants and are not fussy about their food loving both fruit and live food as well as the usual grain and nuts etc.

One of our pairs of Lady Amherst's at Allandoo. Probably our tamest Amherst pair but they are all stunning and a joy to have in the Pheasantry. They are easy to look after as long as they have a good sized pen as well as some cover, to protect them against the worst weather and so the hen can have a rest from the attentions of the cock if she pleases.

User

A few of our pheasants hatched this year. From left to right they are: a Temminck's Tragopan hen; a Reeves hen; a Brown Eared hen and a Lady Amherst's cock. The Lady Amherst will get his beautiful colours next year when he goes through a complete moult but the others in the photo, apart from getting a bit heavier, will remain very similar to what they are at the moment.

We have both Reeves and True Silver Pheasants for sale at the moment. The two Reeves cocks in the photo are from this year's hatch and the True Silver cock (which has the run of the passage between our pens as well as his aviary) is one year old. We do also still have hens for both species. They are £50 a pair.

User

2 of our young Reeves hens. Extremely bonnie wee birds. More decorative than many hens with a rather delicate appearance compared with some pheasant species although in reality they are tough and easy to rear. They like a good variety of food and although a large pen will be beneficial only a basic shelter from the elements is a necessity. They will however appreciate a good supply of perch space and cover (shrubs etc) to allow them to rest, away from their mate, during the breeding season.

We still have a few Reeves and Elliots Pheasants available for sale this year. Stunning and hardy birds. They are 4 - 5 months old and would benefit from a large aviary with plenty of cover. Although they are in a mixed pen at the moment they would probably be better to be split later as once mature (if not before) they are likely to fight.

User

A True Silver cock Pheasant. He's a one year old bird and still has a couple of brown feathers but he was posing so nicely for me I thought I'd better take his picture. They do look like they enjoy the experience. :)

User

One of our Elliot Pheasant cocks at Allandoo Pheasantry. Beautiful and hardy birds. A big plus is that they do not eat a massive amount of our plant life so we can put them into pens without much grass to let the aviary recover from whichever destructive birds were in it previously.

User

One of our Elliot cock Pheasants. This is only our second year breeding Elliot Pheasants but so far so good. We would like to introduce a new bloodline this year so if anyone has a young pair (from this year's hatch) available we would love to hear from you. We do also have some young ones of our own which will be available for sale soon. This boy's tail will grow longer than this by the way. He is only just through his annual moult and his tail hasn't quite reached it's full length.

This is one of our Lady Amherst hens hatched this year. She is about two and a half months old and will be going to a new home in a few weeks time. The Lady Amherst's are hardy birds both as adults and young chicks however we still prefer to make sure our birds are a few months old, used to the outdoors and also eating a variety of foods, before we sell them, so they are better prepared for a new environment. Moving is always going to put any bird's immune system under pressure but we can minimise this when we make sure the birds are strong and more able to adapt to the changes they may face.

I have to say well done to Brinsea on their customer service. I was notified by them by email that they were upgrading their fans on the Brinsea Ovation model we purchased 2 years ago. We have now received a new fan from them free of charge even though we didn't ask for one and our incubator is working well. I was also reminded, in the same email, to make sure I had registered the machine for its three year guarantee in case anything goes wrong with it within the next year. I shall keep our new fan handy knowing it is there ready and waiting for any future fault. Thank you Brinsea. <3

Hopefully I'll get time to add more chick pictures soon but things are rather hectic here at the moment. At this time of year we have numerous chicks hatching every day and barely time for us to breathe. I'll do my best to get something more posted on here soon but for now this will have to keep you going. On the left there are a couple of Sonnerat's (Grey) Junglefowl and one of our Himalayan Monal chicks on the right digging up the towels in the brooder box.

We have a few pairs of Goldens @ £50 a pair & True Silvers @ £50 a pair available at the moment. We also have Mikado cock Pheasants @ £40 each and Himalayan Monal hens @ £105 each.
