About Allegro
Allegro is an amateur musical theatre society, established with the aim of presenting lesser known musicals to Edinburgh audiences.
Allegro Description
Allegro was formed in 1977 from the then Barclay Bruntsfield Drama Group. The intention of the company was to bring lesser known or rarely performed musicals to the attention of audiences for amateur theatre in Edinburgh.
The company has come a long way in that time, building up a reputation for producing highly polished performances with high standards of acting, singing and choreography.
However, as a consequence of performing these lesser known shows and the high costs involved in producing stage musicals, following our 2001 production Allegro found itself in the position of being unable to fund another full production.
Our concert production in 2004 raised sufficient funds to enable us to restart the company and present a full scale musical production of the same high standard as before.

Below is important information for existing and new members.
New Member Auditions:... New members will be required to do a small audition to get into the company. For this audition you should prepare a short song or verse and chorus of a song. You may be asked to do a little bit of movement too, so make sure you are wearing suitable clothes/shoes. You are welcome to bring a CD/iPod/ MP3 player with a backing track or perform a capella. Please advise if you are unable to do a new member audition on 4th June, as we may be able to accommodate you on a later date, although would strongly recommend auditioning on 4th June, given the level of interest shown in this show.
Principal Auditions: All principal audition pieces are available via the audition website, access to this will be given via a Facebook group. Auditions will take place on 18th and 21st June 2018. A sign-up sheet will also available for you to book a slot.
Dance Workshop and Audition: A dance workshop will be held on Monday 4th June to learn a company dance piece. There will also be a separate dance piece for those wishing to audition for "featured dancer". On Monday 11th June, there will then be a dance audition for the company and featured dancers.
If you are unable to make the dance workshop/audition but are interested in auditioning, please let the committee know by emailing info@allegromusical.co.uk

Popstars the 90's Musical open meeting is TONIGHT!
We canāt wait to catch up with old faces and meet some newbies. See you all at 7:30 š9ļøā£0ļøā£š¤
āA cheese-fest of the highest degree' meet Popstars Musical Director James McCutcheon...
"With music from no less than 28 absolute CLASSICS from the 90s, this show promises to be a cheese-fest of the highest degree and I absolutely cannot wait to get startedā¦ It has FOUR medley/mash-up type numbers, all topped off with a MEGAMIX!! I mean who doesnāt love a Megamix?? But donāt think itās all just straight forward āpopā music as the title may suggest, the music spans a plethora... of musical stylesā¦from Pop to Rock, Country to RānāB, Soul to Glam Metalā¦thereās even a cheeky Baroque piece in there for good measure! These fab (and in some cases - not what youāll be expecting) arrangements are no walk in the park either. There is certainly plenty going on to keep the whole castā¦and production teamā¦on their toes!! But Iām so pleased that Allegro have brought Andy, Flick and I back together - clearly someone has noticed that Jukebox musicals are our speciality! Well, I think itās clear Iām loving this musicā¦and itās going to take a lot of hard work to get it sounding as good as it looks on the pageā¦but as the New Radicals taught us: you only get what you give."

He might not know much about The Back Street Boys but he has promised us that Popstars will be like a mega 90ās gig and we canāt wait.
Meet Popstars director Andy Johnston.
"I am absolutely delighted that my extensive, some would say encyclopedic, knowledge of 90ās pop will finally be put to good use in this production. What I donāt know about Back Street Boys is not worth talking about.
... As Flick has already said, there a numbers galore, ranging from boy and girls band classics of the era, rolling across the decade to include artists as varied as Bon Jovi, M People, Cher, Shania Twain and even Wet Wet Wet. We will be pulling out all the stops to stage and light these numbers as spectacularly as possible ā it will be like a mega 90ās gig!
The story is great fun and gives us loads of opportunities for laughs at the dynamics within the girl and boy groups ā and the interaction between them. In fact, there are scenes of auditions, rehearsals and subsequently performance, so itās kinda what you all already do!
Itās a big company show with over 20 individual named parts. OK, some are called Girl 1 to Girl 7, but they all count!
Itās great to be working with Allegro again, especially with James and Flick and more especially on a piece thatās new to Edinburgh.
In the immortal words of Jennifer Lopez ā Letās Get Loud!"

With Popstars open meeting only a week away and auditions just around the corner we thought it would be great to ask the production team to release a few sneaky insights over the next few days on what the show has to offer.
First up, our choreographer Felicity: "This show is going to be so much fun! It has over 20 dance numbers which is very intense but it is split up and involves featured dancers and the ensemble a lot; so there really is so much for everyone to do. There ...are 7 big ensemble numbers which is way more than any typical musical and an additional 5 numbers for anyone wanting to be a featured dancer. It has so many different styles of dance from 'Achy Breaky Heart' line dancing to men fronting up 'Hit me baby one more time' to replicating some serious standing up from a chair on a key change! I'm so excited to get going with this show and hope anyone who loves the 90's, dancing and full on cheesey pop, auditions".
