Amanda Mowat Equine Massage Therapy Description

I am a fully certified and insured Equine Sports Massage Therapist.
I am also a Qualified and listed Veterinary Nurse, having worked in a Veterinary practice for 12 years before doing my training to become an Equine Sports Massage Therapist.

Equine Sports Massage is a hands on therapy, which can benefit many horses, especially those who display the following common signs:

- changes in behaviour or performance
-muscle fatigue
-nervousness
-'cold backed'
-stiffness
-shortened stride
-difficulty working in a soft outline
-muscle injury

and those on box rest, or recovering from injury.

Sports massage isn't just for those displaying any of the above problems, every horse whether in hard work or at rest can benefit from a sports massage. Ideal for routine maintenance of your horse, and to help prevent any problems arising.

The benefits of Sports massage are many -
-Enhance muscle tone and increase range of motion.
-Reduce inflammation and swelling of joints - alleviating pain.
-Promote healing - by increasing the flow of nutrients to muscles and removing fluid and toxins.
-Release tension and reduce stress.
-Stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage
-Release Endorphins - the body's natural pain killer.
-Increase mobility to injured horses
-Removes spasms and adhesions in muscles.
-Speeds recovery to injured muscles.

Because the Sports Massage that I offer covers the whole body, it really helps keep the horse in better overall physical condition and helps keep a natural balance, preventing any problems occurring.

Please Note - Equine Sports Massage is not a substitute for Veterinary attention - I work within the guidelines of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, which states that only a Veterinary Surgeon may make a diagnosis and treat an animal. I will require consent from your Veterinary Surgeon before working on your horse.

Treatments and Prices:

-Routine Sports Massage - this is a full body massage and takes about 1 hour - initial visit will take a bit longer as a history and short assessment will be carried out. £45

- Full Assessment and Massage - I offer this for those wanting to build a bigger picture of how their horse moves and why, and to find any potential or current problems which could be treated by a sports massage. This package includes - Gait analysis, which will require me to see you either lunging or riding your horse in walk, trot and canter; conformation exam and measurements of joints and dorsal muscles, tack check, and a full sports massage. This will take about 2 hours in total. £80

-Pre /Post Event Massage - a massage designed to warm up the muscles so that they can work at their full potential before a competition, and to help with recovery after a competition. This does not involve me treating any problem areas. This takes about 30 /40 minutes. £30

Discounts are available if I am treating more than one horse at the same premises - or if you want to book and pay for 2 or more treatments in one go.

***new for 2016 - now offering massage for dogs - great for those who are elderly and perhaps suffering from arthritis. or those recovering from surgery or injury. Please get in touch for more info. Price for dog treatment is £25. ***
