About Angela Learoyd Jewellery

Contemporary handmade studio jewellery.

Angela Learoyd Jewellery Description

Two themes are discernible throughout my work – textured and formed silver combined with interesting and unusual semi-precious gemstones. The combination of these elements gives my work its signature design aesthetic.

I try hard to to source the most interesting stones to work with. I particularly like the markings on Jaspers and Agates and am always searching for stones cut in unusual shapes, with matt finishes.

I often start with the stone itself and this informs my design process. Experimenting with textures on silver allows me to echo the markings of the stone. My favourite texturing techniques are hammering and roll printing.

I use silver sheet, tube and wire to form my shapes. Some of the metalsmithing techniques I use are doming, swaging and press forming. They allow me to produce three dimensional, sculptural shapes.

My aesthetic is modern and bold with simple clean lines. My pieces are comfortable and wearable. They are often matt with subtle colourings.

My aim is for my pieces to make an understated statement.
