World's End Close was named due to its position in the city. Right night to the old Netherbow gate, poorer residents who couldn't afford the toll to get back in the city never left making this the very edge of their world.

The City Arts Centre on Market Street was formally part of the old Scotsman newspaper buildings. The 9 storey gallery was essentially a warehouse for the paper before being redeveloped in 1980. Now it hosts a busy programme of creative exhibitions year round.

Edinburgh's Old Town is littered with spectacular buildings and views to see. One that can be accessed completely free is Edinburgh Central Library located on George IV Bridge. Originally opened in 1890 and funded by steel industrialist Andrew Carnegie, the public library is French Renaissance-styled building that retains its old charm inside.

The Camera Obscura and World of Illusions has been a purpose-built Edinburgh attraction since the 1850's, making it the oldest in the city. Just a couple of minutes walk from St.Giles Apartments.

With its colourful fronted independent shops and some great places for a quick bite, Victoria Street is one of Edinburgh's most picturesque locations.

There aren't many places in the world that look more stunning than Edinburgh on a clear and sunny day.
With incredible places to see like St.Giles Cathedral on the High Street (pictured) you won't be short of things to do during your stay.

Is it possible that one of Scotland's most well known residents has been spotted?

One of the most spectacular venues in Edinburgh is just across the street from St.Giles Apartments. The Signet Library features grand Georgian architecture that can be taken in whilst enjoying afternoon tea or even a cocktail. The building has a rich history and is part of the old Parliament House complex.

User

It doesn't look like much, but St.Margaret's Chapel is the oldest surviving building in Scotland. Standing inside Edinburgh Castle, the chapel was said to be built in the 12th century.

Fleshmarket Close, perhaps best known for being the setting of the Ian Rankin novel of the same name, was part of a buzzing market trade in the old town of Edinburgh. At the north end was an abattoir where animals would be taken before their meat was distributed to the markets on the High Street, hence the name.

Standing in Parliament Square, across from St.Giles Apartments, is Walter Montagu Douglas Scott. He became the 5th Duke of Buccleuch at only 13 years old and lived in Dalkeith Palace on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The festival is officially over! What a spectacular display of fireworks from the castle last night. If you joined us in August, we hope you had a great time during your visit.
