Archipelago Artisan Bakery is an artisan bakery and cafe. We make fresh organic bread, cakes, salads, soups every day. Open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm.
Archipelago Artisan Bakery Description
Caroline Walsh has worked in the food industry professionally for 10 years and has cooked all her life. She has excellent knowledge of baking and artisan bread-making and has undertaken numerous bakery courses including one with local artisan baker Andrew Whitley of Bread Matters.
Most recently, she has worked as head chef at the Fruitmarket Café. Prior to this she helped to set up Loudons Bakery in Edinburgh in January 2011 and was Head Baker there for just under two years. She has also worked in Paris for the well-known Rose Bakery. She has also spent time cooking in Greece, Sweden and Norway. Much of her bread and cakes are inspired by her work and travels abroad.
Caroline believes that what you put into baking is reflected in the end product and she works hard to create recipes and flavours which are just a little bit different.
Caroline also has a keen interest in the ingredients she uses. At Archipelago she aims to use local produce where possible such as carrots, parsnips and beetroots in her cakes, or produce picked from the garden or from one of her many foraging trips! Blackberries are picked locally for the jam and elderflowers in June to make cordial for the cakes!

So another daily update from Archipelago Bakery. I have spent a lot of time last night and today thinking about our next steps going forward and have decided that we will open tomorrow 8am-1pm and then we are going to take a short break for 7 days in order to take stock, keep staff safe and I need to take a breather. We will re-open on Wednesday 1st April and continue to supply you with delicious loaves of wholesome, healthy bread. Remember our loaves are made with organic fl...our and contain no horrible nasties so it is genuinely good for you. We will concentrate on getting the bread out, but we will also be selling cakes and our traybakes. If there is a demand for lunch stuff such as our homemade soups, fresh salads, savoury tarts, veggie frittata and a daily vegan lunch special then we will introduce these back into the daily offerings. In the meantime, pop in tomorrow for bread, scones, croissants and cake and then we will see you all again on Wednesday 1st April for lots of tasty bread. Under the current Government guidelines we are allowed to stay open (we are key providers of essential items such as bread and take-away food). I do feel it is important to provide our bread and food to the local community but I have to admit I'm feeling increasingly anxious about staying open and want to protect my staff and their health. We will only allow ONE customer in the Bakery at any one time. Please respect this. With so many other food establishments closing, includ...ing take-away, I will assess the situation and take a view on it tonight. Just want to thank you all in advance for your continued support. We are open today though and we have bread, homemade nutritious soup, freshly made salads, a tasty roast med veg/green lentil filo pie and lots of cake and coffees to go. Just to say a massive thank you to everyone that keeps turning out for bread and food. The kindness and support is truly overwhelming and probably the only thing that’s keeping me going. I know that this is hitting everyone hard in one way or another so every time you spend a penny in the bakery whether it is 5p or £5 it really is greatly appreciated. I cannot thank you all enough. WE ARE OPEN! Archipelago will continue to open but in order to do so and survive we are going to have to adapt and make a few changes. As of today we will be CONTACTLESS only. Please pay with your card in order to respect my staff. Please limit your buying to two loaves max. We have tables inside but there is a healthy distance between them but we will remove one if we need to in order for you to feel more comfortable about sitting in. We have lots of tables outside and the w...eather is nice! We are more than happy to bag your food up and you can collect it but you need to give me an email with your order with about 36hr notice. We can deliver but I need 48hr notice with an email as I have to organise delivery etc. Please do continue to come though if you feel fit and healthy. We will close at about 230pm each day though. This is my livelihood. My staff need jobs. People need food. Until we are forced to close then we are open for bread, coffee, soups/salads and cakes.
