Argaty Red Kites Description

Here on our farm just north of Stirling, visitors can watch these exciting birds and their spectacular flying. The hide and Visitor Centre is open all day, but feeding time is the best time to visit. In winter (from last Sunday in October), visitors should arrive prompt for 1. 30pm but between 21st February and Saturday the last Saturday in October we would ask visitors to arrive for 2. 30pm. (Booking advised)

‪ ‪Thanks to Clare Harte of @ScotSisterPhoto for a lovely @RSPBScotland blog on us and our 2018 @NatureofScot award. Very flattered to receive such a generous write up. https://community.rspb.org.uk/…/an-intr oduction-to-argaty-r…

Lovely night representing Argaty at the Scottish Raptor Study Group’s parliamentary reception.
Great to see so many politicians turning out to support the work the group does to further our knowledge about these wonderful birds.
Wonderful presentation by Laurie Campbell on his life photographing wildlife too.

Turns out that the sound of an otter devouring a fish is quite unpleasant. Who knew?

User

If you're not bored of this yet then here's another good one from early this morning!

User

Never one to take the easy route in, Gill prefers to get her meal from the closed side of the dog basket. Great to see some daylight footage!

Day 24 in the Big Brother house and Gill's woken up on the wrong side of the bed...

Very pleased to have an article published in this month’s #ThinkLikeaMountain the e-magazine of SCOTLAND: The Big Picture
The piece focuses on the Pentland Kestrels Project, an amazing initiative run by Keith Burgoyne and Graham Anderson. Kestrels are in terrible decline in Scotland (the population dropped by 65% between 1995 & 2012), but Keith and Graham‘s work has led to a massive revival in the Pentland Hills.

Gill the otter continues to visit - we are loving this.

User

Spring can be hard for birds in Scotland. Our lack of mature, broadleaved trees means that birds like kestrels and owls struggle to find somewhere to nest. But there's a quick fix for this. Shopping baskets... yes really. Check out this short film by Beluga Lagoon to learn more.

Brilliant photo taken from the Red Kite Photography Hide by Marion Moore Caption competition anyone?

Bum shot!
Some pics from last night. Gill the otter goes in search of fish. Think it might be time to reposition the camera. Would be nice to see her face!

my husband and i just happened upon the argaty site without any idea of what we were in for. the first time we ended up staying for 5 hours! it was the highlight of our 3 weeks in scotland. tom was so knowledgeable and engaging. it is so wonderful to be around people who have such a passion for these birds. we enjoyed ourselves so much, that we went back one more time before we had to leave scotland. this time we were met by mike mcdonald, the ranger, and he was a terrific presenter as well. if you are anywhere near argaty, do not, i repeat, do not miss the opportunity to experience the red kites. tell everyone you know to go and see them!!!

We spent the morning with Neil for the ‘lambing experience’ and it was certainly that! What a brilliant time we all had, so informative and we got to handle the lambs but whilst actually doing something useful. My children Molly and Lewis loved helping move the lambs from the shed out to the field. Neil was a fabulous host and great with the kids explaining things in a way we all understood. I would highly recommend this for something different to do which is enjoyable for both adults and children. We all learned lots today, thank you!

We first came across Argaty Red Kites by chance on New Years Day 2018 while traveling on the way home. We needed to stop for dinner and we spotted the sign and I have to say I'm so very pleased we did. I called to check there was room for us to attend and the exemplary experience began. Arriving at the farm we were greeted by Tom and everything was explained to us and we awaited the Red Kite feeding time eagerly. Once in the hide, a thorough overview of the RSPB involvement in the Red Kites was provided with a wealth of information to heighten our knowledge of the current state of the wildlife around us. The whole experience was very enjoyable. The Kites are exhilarating, watching them swoop to grab a morsel of food is a sight to behold and one that has convinced us that we will go every time we return from holidays in the Highlands. Hence, we also visited during the Beast from the East in Late February/early March and again in early June. Each time we have visited we have met the different hosts, as the farm is a working farm too. The hosts are all very obliging and the hosts inform us about all aspects of what the farm offers by means of visiting experiences. This really is an excellent place to visit and the innovative ideas that are being expressed lead me to believe that the farm will gain a more and more fabulous reputation, as the place to visit. We also had the fortune of visiting the Wildlife hide. which again brought a whole host of wildlife to the door "literally", so long as you can sit quiet and still the animals come into the feeding areas and provide a wealth of entertainment of their habits and quirks, like tree creepers and upside down red squirrels. We could have quite easily sat there all day. I cannot praise the staff enough for their contribution to sharing the joy of wildlife in the country.

User

Visited here today to see the feeding . Could not believe our luck at how many kites were there the colours of these birds are beautiful such a specticle to see them so close and in flight, chasing of crow's a heron and a buzzard stunning thank you to Ardgaty and Marion Moore

This is the experience of a lifetime. Amazing hands on experience in lambing and a great overview of farming life on a magnificent estate. Drive into the car park to be met with a sky full of red kites and abundance of wildlife from red squirrels to jays before we even begin with the lambing. What a fantastic set up so professional and a wonderful host, Neil. Within minutes we were assisting in delivering a lamb, then off to the fields to put lambs and ewes out, to round it off watched the dogs round up some sheep. What a day, I highly recommend this event. Get it on your bucket list fast. We will be back.

User

The first thing you receive on arrival at Argaty is a warm, sincere welcome and from that moment on you know your in for a truly fabulous time in the company of Tom and his wonderful family/team. We found the various nature related events we attended a fun, hands on, jovial and relaxed experience and without doubt will be attending more over time...We thank you Tom, family and all involved.....

User

Thank you to Rory for a great wee afternoon watching the red kites. It was my first visit and I will definitely be back. A lovely relaxed atmosphere to begin with and then absolute excitement watching these magnificent birds. A bonus to spot the woodpecker and the beautiful pheasant and numerous swallows. Fantastic set up .

Superb place - great staff and amazing set up. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you

My fiance and I were lucky enough to time driving by and deciding on a whim to visit this Monday with the 1:30 feeding time. We saw at least 20 Red Kites and a few other birds too. The guide was fantastic and gave loads of fun facts and interesting tidbits that made the visit even more enjoyable. We popped by the visitor centre where tea and coffee facilities and bathrooms were available (another plus if you also happen to be on a long drive as we were!) We bought a few RSPB pins and gave some money to donations also. It was a great visit and would thoroughly recommend it.

User

Just spent the afternoon with my granddaughter at the lambing experience.

Neil was everything you could hope for as a host .

Within 10 minutes of arriving I found myself delivering a lamb ! with Jessica looking on. This is a truly fantastic way to introduce children to child ( or lamb ) birth in a totally natural environment.

Jessica was then treated to bottle feeding a lamb before we went with Neil in his pickup to check on the other ewes in the nearby field. We moved some sheep and lambs into another field with the help of two highly skilful sheepdog and were shown various aspects of sheep farming and lambing.

Neil was hugely informative throughout and has a fantastic mannerism with children. This experience is suitable for both kids and adults and I can't recommend it enough .

Thanks for a wonderful day

User

Had another fantastic visit today!! Not so many kites but awesome none the less! Spent time in the new hide, it didn't take long for squirrels, woodpeckers and other birds to come and join us. Got some fantastic photos and I highly recommend to everyone they go visit!!!

User

Had a great afternoon at the lambing experience. We helped feed the small lambs, watched while Neil tube feed a lamb who couldn’t suckle. We then went to another field to move some Ewes, watching the lovely Jodie the cutest ever sheepdog doing her stuff was great. I would thoroughly recommend this if you’re looking for something different to do.

Great experience watching the red kites at feeding time and guide very informative also great to wander round visitor centre .loads of small birds to be seen on bird tables plus a bonus cup of diy tea..well worth the visit and will hopefully get back again sometime!

Four of us had a brilliant Red Squirrel experience at Argaty this afternoon. Nuthatches, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Treecreeper and other birds kept us entertained with interesting behaviours such as, in the case of the woodpecker, collecting nuts and wedging them in crevices before hammering them open, until the squirrels showed up. When the animals bounded into the arena, they investigated several of the baited feeding sites and then proceeded to chase each other madly up, down and around the tree trunks, squeeking in their excitement. At least four animals were involved, each one looking quite different from the others, in terms of colour, and also in size. Some were certainly young, being fairly small, and slight in build. We weren't there for photography ourselves but anyone with a camera would have got fabulous results. You may need a little bit of patience sometimes, but the hide is cosy, with comfy chairs for four people, so a wait is no hardship. A great way to spend a few hours

User

Fantastic day 1st time myself and my partner had been but it won't be the last got great photoes.

Had another fantastic visit today!! Not so many kites but awesome none the less! Spent time in the new hide, it didn't take long for squirrels, woodpeckers and other birds to come and join us. Got some fantastic photos and I highly recommend to everyone they go visit!!!
