Hiking within Edinburgh? Yes! This is a perfect place for a nice and a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings. You can reach the top less than an hour. The “summit” can be quite windy, so prepare accordingly.

Great viewpoint with truly amazing views of this historical city. Could get very very windy up there though so bring a good jacket. The views during the day and at night are not the same but are equally amazing. For those who cannot walk up so far up I recommend going along the Salisbury Crags.

Best place in Edinburgh for views of the city and surrounding area. If you're feeling adventurous tackle the "mountain" from the west side and take the trail on the south side of the mountain. If looking for easier trails then swoop around the northside for a not so exhausting and quad crushing hike. Either way is totally worth what you see at the top of the hill.

We're so out of shape. BUT, we made it!

You know you're out of shape when you see middle-aged men running around like billy goats on the rocks scattered around on the hills and you're thinking of what to eat for breakfast tomorrow...

We parked in one of the lots down below and made our way up the trail. I guess there are a few different ways (and you can stop at the ruins), but we took the way that looked the most worn. We were warned it would get dark soon (who knew?!) by a passing walker, but we made it up in decent time and it still wasn't actually dark as we took pictures and caught our breath at the top.

You'll get some really nice views of Edinburgh and the surrounding area up at the top. Sometimes you'll also get to see a screaming mother chasing her rebellious adolescent (Ryan? Brian?) that's "too close to the edge". 50 people suddenly felt very awkward.

Highly recommended! If you love to see a city view along with green hill. It's very beautiful. BTW prepare a good jacket as there is windy at the top of the hill

Great way to spend a couple of hours hiking to the top. Its not too strenous all ages will be able to do it. Views from the top are magnificent. There is a small car park at the bottom where you can park your car

User

Well worth the climb for the great view from the top. Make sure you wear appropriate shoes, terrain can get pretty rough/slippery in certain weather. Best views are on a clear sunny day, can see all the way to North Berwick/Leven.

It was nice, bit of a hike but great views.

If only there weren't these inconsiderate muppets sitting right next to the sun dial for no bloody reason, making it dangerous for anyone else to get to the very top, whilst trying to avoid them. You still get to see everything, but once you're there you wanna get to highest rocks ... otherwise what's the point.

User

Great views from the top, but if like me you are afraid of heights it can be scary in places when you're close to the edge. Recommend proper footwear as the climb is a little uneven in places. Check out all routes up to determine which is best for you.
