It seems like yesterday when I phoned Polly in desperation....."I have a family of day old squirrels Polly, can you help?". Well help she did and the first picture is them a few days after arrival and the rest are why they are now out in an aviary awaiting a gentle release into the wild from Polly's garden. It's a fabulous story. Did we ever dare that it would end so well?

We were delighted to help and be part of the Dundee Boys Brigade Annual Summer Canvas Camp, we just received this lovely message from them, it looks like they had a fabulous time! :) "Dear Atholl Palace, WHAT A WEEK OF WEATHER. The sun shone almost constantly –until the Friday evening and Saturday morning when we were close to striking Camp—and only this week did we actually manage to get all our canvas back to Lochee! The joys of camping. With over 50 Boys attending and lots... of volunteer Staff, we really did have a wonderful time and one, which I genuinely believe will make a lasting impression with all you attended. Only by the support, encouragement and generosity of The Atholl Palace can the BB put on such a varied and fun-filled Programme of activities.. Without exception, we can say that these kids, as well as all others, had a fantastic positive life experience. May we, again, thank all at the Hotel for the kindness and consideration and we really do wish all the Directors, Staff and Members all the very best.

The wee squirrels are still going. Polly is doing a fantastic job with them and the male took solid food today for the first time. Still not out of the woods as these sorts of animals can really suffer from stress in a variety of ways.....don't we all! But they are in the best hands they could be so ......c'mon the wee squirrels!

We stayed over the hotel and grounds are beautuful and well kept.We had a lovely meal the cheese board supper and breakfast.

Howard and all the staff too many to mention are all very pleasant all the employees at the Atholl Palace do a great job and all are helpful and friendly we had a great stay.

Recommend you visit the wee museum as it was fun and interesting and my father-inlaw and mother-inlaw who was celebrating their 60th anniversary also enjoyed a wee trip back in time at the museum.

We also enjoyed the sauna, steam room, the pool, the areas had been busy and the staff had managed to keep it clean and tidy.

The decor is lovely and the fires are kept going gives it a warm cosy feel.

User

We had a lovely time at th hotel, nice room with a huge bed and an excellent bathroom. The views were wonderful from the double aspect windows especially the snow covered trees. We got a nice surprise with the card and chocolates for our anniversary and it’s these things that make the hotel so nice . The meals were very good and all staff very attentive especially the restaurant manager. The ambiance of the public areas with open fires and comfy couches make you feel really relaxed . This will definitely be the hotel we’ll stay in from now on when we come to Pitlochry.

User

Stayed here for my nephews wedding on the 27th April. Absolutely stunning. Will definitely stay here again. The hotel staff could not have done more to help when my daughter Suffered an epileptic seizure during the wedding meal. Staff arranged a room right next to the reception so once she came round we could move to sleep and recover. They even arrange for some food to be sent in to her. Can’t thank them enough for their kindness.

My Parents just returned from a splendid time at the Atholl Palace Hotel St Valentine Dinner Dance in Pitlochry. Here’s what they had to say: We were looked after by true professionals. Front of house, chefs, waiting, bar, function, housekeeping, heads of department and night staff were all friendly with excellent customer relations! The hotel and lodges are first class, all areas are spotless. We loved the decor and the log fire with wee snug areas had such inviting couches. If you've not been to the Atholl Palace then you have to include this on your ‘Must Do’ list, you will not be disappointed. Our party of 16 was a cousins get together, we danced to the best Motown soul band outside of Detroit - Stax of Motown a local band. The food was fresh and the presentation right down to the marmalade and honey was perfect. Well done to Mr Graeme Strachan, his team of hard working staff and his lovely wife Lorna. We will definitely return. John and Allison Perrie

Me and my husband had our wedding at Atholl palace on 27.04.18!! The day was absolutely perfect. A big mention to Emma who was just amazing and did everything to help us I stayed in one of the garden rooms the night before and my husband stayed in a room on the third floor! Both rooms were absolutely spotless and beautiful, we spend two more nights in the turret suite and wasn’t blown away. We both thought it would be must more ‘wow’ and luxurious. Amazing time had by all though. Another massive mention to Howard in the restaurant, we have had supper on two different occasions and breakfast on both days too and must say we returned just for him! He makes every guest feel important and went above and beyond any restaurant manager we have seen before!

Thanks for all your help and we hope to return one year for our anniversary.

User

Loved every minute of our stay at Atholl Palace. The staff were all very helpful and the food was amazing. Thanks especially to Howard from the Veranda Restaurant. You made our weekend with your wit and good humour. Definitely be back. X

User

Just had an absolutely fabulous weekend here with my girlfriends, the staff are very friendly, helpful & attentive, from the moment we arrived until we checked out they could not do enough for us. Howard is an absolute asset to the hotel & the most accommodating person, nothing was any bother to him, an absolute gent. We will definitely be returning, very soon.

User

I would like to say thank you to all the staff at athol palace was there on Saturday 31st Sunday 1st for my birthday my fiance Mr Robert Burnett and my family for my present room was lovely carvery was amazing complimentary to chefs staff in restaurant was lovely to nothing was a problem to them very helpful will be back soon xx

User

I love pitlochry but this is the first time we stayed at the Athol Palace Hotel. It's a 4star hotel but the staff, views and atmosphere it's 5 star. From checking in to the staff at dinner and breakfast everyone is so friendly and helpful. The many seating areas within the hotel are amazing you can spend hours looking out at the views or looking at the detail in the amazing structure of the building.

The rooms are large clean and warm. There was an excellent team tray with shortbread, chocolates and even hot chocolate with the various teas and coffees. Everything is covered.

The spa is excellent and the pool area is so relaxing.

I enjoyed every second I was there and loo forward to my next visit.

Thank you to the staff, you are excellent.

User

Had a great day at the spa. The staff were friendly experienced and attentive to our needs and made our experience so nice thank you. Afternoon tea was delicious and the waiter was excellent. In all it was a great day and we will be back to do it all over again. Thanks so much

User

Excellent weekend at Atholl Palace, booked via Itson for dinner, bed and breakfast for 2 nights! We upgraded to a Valley View room, and the view was stunning especially as the valley was covered in snow. However, despite the view and the clean room I'm not sure it was worth the extra £40. The staff were very friendly, in particular Howard the restaurant manager is attentive and a credit to the hotel! The food in the restaurant was also very good and a new menu each night! The only complaint I would have is the price of drinks - £9.50 for a large glass of wine! We also made use of the spa and the hot lava shell massage is highly recommended. Overall a great weekend and would stay again!

User

Could not have had better service. Staff very helpful but not obtrusive. Very comfortable room and excellent food. I was there for my Nephew's wedding and would like to mention in particular Emma and Thomas for their professional, friendly and warm welcome that made it a special day for my family and the other guests at the wedding. Nothing was to much trouble for them.

User

Brilliant place for my 50th birthday.. Shame the water in the shower was freezing. Brrrr! Loved the spa. The maitre d in the restaurant was an amazing guy who encouraged the restaurant to sing happy birthday to me.. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

User

Was at the party night on Sat 2nd Dec with another 7 friends. Stayed in room 225 the bathroom was filthy, shower is hanging off the wall cistern cracked and toilet bowl is yellow, cold showers at night before heading to party night and again in the morning all 8 of us plus others we met in the lift!! Totally unacceptable of this standard of hotel! Stayed in cleaner travel lodges and never had a cold shower there!!! Food was nice on a positive! Would recommend a stay over on this nights experience.

User

Just back from Athol Palace , lovely hotel and grounds. We saw a drop in standards !!! Breakfast and Dinner food very disappointed !!! Staff in restaurant need a few more training classes with the exception of one guy Scottish guy , hey was very attentive 😃 Also room service need a bit of training ! We were wakened this morning at 8.05am by maid wanting to service room !!! OMG we were booking out anyway could you not give them a list of rooms checking out to do last !!!

User

We stayed in the bothy which cost 600£ for 3 nights accomdation only ! Friendly staff ‘ lovely bar meal and views and atmosphere good ! Unfortunately ‘the bothy needs an upgrade ! Yellow in inner toilet and dirty ‘ four poster bed nice but mattress like a rock ! Dead insects around skirting boards ! Felt should have been thoroughly cleaned prior to arrival ! My boyfriend booked for my birthday treat and would not return in a hurry ☹️

User

Stayed in many places and wouldn’t recommend here. Never slept in such an uncomfortable bed. The staff were great and would try to resolve any issues but hands down wouldn’t say it’s worth the money!

Our Post-Wedding “treat”

So where to begin :

The Pro’s -

Emily one of the hotels bar staff was exceptional at her job and made us feel welcome as well as providing us with advice on what we should be ordering.

The Lavender Spa staff were brilliant and very knowledgable.

Howard and Mirela at the restaurant were lovely and couldn’t have done more for us on our short stay.

From the outside the hotel looked beautiful

The cons :

The front desk staff were unhelpful, unwelcoming and quite condescending when asking for simple advice. Faith and the front desk manager were not accommodating for a later check out by 1 hour from 11am to midday. So we checked out earlier and spent no money in hotel on second night after ordering champagne and numerous drinks on our first night.

4* hotel with no hand wash in room. I’ve been to lesser star hotels and had this small convenience.

An upgraded room with a “valley view”, which was a view of some nice scaffolding and a skip. When asking to move we got told “the hotels booked due to a wedding”

The hotels lower levels (next to museum, snooker room and laundry) were dirty and lots of dead flies and leaves. This wasn’t just a few days of dirt.

The wedding party although lovely were lively to say the least. There were glasses and bottles strewn all over the front of the hotel and on statues etc.

IN the room carpets were worn, size was very small (after having to pay extra on our break for it), and the closest was covered in dust. We had asked for some prosecco to be taken to the room when we checked in but when we arrived it was already there and due to the heat in the small room the ice had melted meaning our prosecco was of room temperature when I asked for another ice bucket I was told it would be £4.

All in all not the best of experiences and I would certainly not say it was 4* more border line 3*. It was overpriced for what it was and I wish we had booked somewhere else for after our wedding on the 3rd July 2018. If we had known of building work and other events I would have stayed clear which I am planning on doing with this run down castle in the future it is certainly not a “Palace”.

User

Checked in to a “superior” double room today with a bad smell & no working phone. Reported the problems to the front desk with no resolution 2 hours later. Discovered a dirty toilet, so cleaned it & opened the window. Over 2 hours later still waiting for the phone to work ... also, no fridge so went downstairs for ice bucket & milk & to report problems a second time. Very small bathroom, no bath. Not feeling superior at all! Shame about the service because it’s a lovely property.

Had a great day at the spa. The staff were friendly experienced and attentive to our needs and made our experience so nice thank you. Afternoon tea was delicious and the waiter was excellent. In all it was a great day and we will be back to do it all over again. Thanks so much
