Auchinbreck Farm Description

Promoting Native Rare Breads: Our native breeds are in decline particularly from cheap and poor welfare mass imports from Europe. We started with 4 pigs to clear some ground. Then after watching a Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST) special on BBC Country File by Adam Hanson and his father Joe that we saw the importance of saving and promoting our native rare breeds. We now support 3 rare breeds, The Gloucestershire Old Spot Pig, Boreray Sheep ( These sheep were the breed the St Kildian's kept) and the Bagot Goat.

Buying meat from us ensures the long term security of these Rare Breeds. This year 2017 we have 15 lambs. 7 of which are Pedigree Boreray. We hope to raise these to 2 years before the ready for the meat market due the the small size of the sheep. The remainder are crossbreed to produce a bigger carcass. Buying the cross breed from us is also helping us to maintain the Boreray flock. We hope to have small amounts of Mutton available shortly.
