The JCCP (the joint council for aesthetic practitioners) and the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) have been working hard to restrict the inappropriate advertising of prescription-only medications in the UK aesthetic industry.
Botulinum Toxin or ‘Botox’ is used as an anti-wrinkle treatment and to treat various cosmetic medical issues. It is a prescription-only medication. Prescription only medication CANNOT be advertised. Th...is legislation applies to Medics and Non Medics.
The ASA has just released stricter regulations on advertising Botox.
What do the new regulations say?
- You are not allowed to advertise Botox directly and indirectly as it a prescription-only medication - It is seen as unethical and has the potential to influence vulnerable individuals - Direct advertising of Botox has always been banned, however, the rules are much stricter regarding indirectly advertising this treatment now
Augment yourself has always been careful with advertising for this service, however, under the new regulations there will be some changes to ensure I can advertise this service as ethically as possible!
This means no more indirect advertising, no botox and wrinkle relaxing hashtags, and no more before and after photographs.
Please note I WILL still be offering this treatment, however as of today I will no longer be advertising the treatment.
I may be at a disadvantage as a business, as advertising my work is important to showcase my services. However, I trust my existing clients to spread the word instead.
I am always available for a full consultation where I am happy to show you results from previous treatments.
Overall and more importantly this is a positive move forward to the Aesthetic Industry being more regulated.
