Insurance Fraud! They included insurances amounting 300 pounds we didn't need without telling us. We thought we just posted bail. In the long queue and with tired children we could not check the whole contract.That's outright betrayal!

Poor experience, long queues even as a loyalty member. Staff member managing the line kept sending non-loyalty customers to priority area, creating much confusion. However, I was impressed that all my paperwork had been prepared in advance.

Very poor experience.

Visiting Scotland from the USA. Rented a Ford Fiesta. It had a couple of dents in the hood when we rented, but no other obvious damage. 100 mi north of Edinburgh (on a highway, not some country road) our front left tire blows out - the outside, hard part of the tire. Scary, dangerous. We go in to change it to the spare, but here is no nut wrench supplied in the car!!! Have to call for assistance to put in the spare (a donut), etc etc, then wait for a replacement tire to be available in Fort William. As they were finally changing the donut they noticed a BULGE IN ONE OF THR REAR TIRE! Had to get that tire replaced.

All this wasted time on a holiday. But we were at least thinking Avis was picking up the tab for supplying us with a defective car not even equipped with a functioning jack and a wrench... wrong!!! They just charged us £188 - we saw it on the credit card statement. At the same time, they provided no documentation that we could give to our insurance company.

Here in he US, I called Avis, but they are telling me that "overseas they can take 30-40 BUSINESS DAYS" to come up with the response. That hey are really not part of Avis "as such"...

At this point, since there is no documentation to file with my insurance company - and they also have rules that a claim and supporting documents have to be submitted in a timely manner - I am calling my credit card company to stop these charges.

Oh, and I did try to call Edinburgh Avis location - using my own money, of course - but they are not reachable. You get transferred to a central UK reservations number. Beware and don't rent from these jokers.

Great experience and very helpful customer service. Can't remember his name, but the Italian guy was very helpful. Went out of his way to explain stuff to us.

Reading the reviews here AFTER I booked and rented a car I was a bit anxious to know how I will end up. But I must say the whole process was painless. I rented the car without any additional insurance - the service desk clerk was helpful to give me information about the costs and so on. I was given a better car than I originally booked, which was perfect. The car was brand new, with approx. 8k miles and we've traveled another thousand miles with it. The drop-off was during the night time, so I just left the keys in the key drop-off case. I was charged exactly as I was meant to (I returned the car with full gas tank). If I haven't stressed myself with the reviews, it would be really flawless.

Absolutely appalling. I was quoted by their website a total of 99 GBP for the rental period. Ended up paying more than 365 GBP! Quote was way off and the salesman at the desk extremely pushy and vague about the extras I was agreeing too. Feel completely ripped off! Will never use Avis again and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

I made a reservation through Expedia to rent a car through Avis and prepaid . When I returned the car and returned home I saw that I was charged 3 days later hundreds of dollars for a upgrade that I never agreed to and never got.

I will never rent from Avis in any Country ever again. I wished I would of read these reviews before renting from Avis.
