A recent job from a sunnier day, dismantling a tall leaning pine tree from a cherry picker.

A few little Monday morning tree facts for you. 😊

Looking to attract more birds to your garden? Try putting out pet hair in feeders, it makes ideal nest building material.
Currently more popular than the peanuts and mealworms in our garden, Dougal is getting groomed more than ever to keep up supply!!

It’s not often you’ll see something political on our page, but this issue is close to home.
Developers regularly net trees and hedges that are due to be removed to prevent birds nesting allowing them to carry out the work in nesting season.
For those that aren’t aware, any bird actively nesting is protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. A nest is classed as active from the minute the birds start gathering twigs, and it covers all species from pigeons to golden e...agles.
We are aware that certain work including tree and hedge removal will always occur, and accept that. We like to avoid it if possible and spend a lot of time and energy encouraging the maintenance and management of existing trees, and the planting of new ones.
Our stance is that if these trees and hedges really must go, then they should be left uncovered for birds to nest and the work carried out outside of nesting season.
Birds have a tough time as it is and need all the help they can get, developments can and should wait. Worth noting it’s not just birds these nets affect, plenty of other animals such as hedgehogs are denied access to shelter or food, or get trapped inside after waking from hibernation.
Your opinions are welcomed as always, and please do sign the petition and share this if you agree.
Thanks 🌳🕊🦔❤️

Cracking start to the week crown raising and tidying a variety of trees around Michelmersh Church yard. Lovely little church with beautiful views, even better on a sunny spring day.

Big stumps needn’t be a big problem!

Great news 🦅❤️🌳

Rotten weather today put pay to the planned climbing work, but we did manage to get a new hedge planted.
The hornbeam hedge was added to a wildlife border at the rear of the garden, where there were already mixed native species whips planted and the grass is kept long. All adds up to the perfect habitat for small mammals, and we saw a shrew whilst planting so it definitely works! As the plants mature they’ll also form a perfect nesting opportunity for song birds.

Sunnier days last week. Cracking views from Michelmersh.

Another cat rescue last week. ‘Tom’ was brought down safe and sound, just a little hungry after a day and a night up a large oak tree!

How to make a hog house!

Another prominent Romsey tree treated to an Awbridge Arb hair cut.
This oak was reduced by up to 1.2m, as per permission granted from Test Valley Borough Council.
As you can see, the weather improved throughout the morning too!!

Storm Erik presented us with a couple of challenges....
A fallen stem of a eucalyptus prompted the felling of the remaining tree, which was likely to fall across power lines of left due to a substantial amount of decay at the old pollard point.
Then just as we got to the pub on Friday the phone rang about a fallen silver birch hung up over a customers driveway. This was dismantled in wet and windy conditions with no damage to the gates and posts underneath. Shout out to Joe for skipping Friday beers to help!!
