About Ayrshire Academy Of Canine Beautician

Our Dog Grooming Courses are suitable for any student from beginner to intermediate, whether simply to learn how to groom and trim your own dogs or to make a career from it. The courses are tailored to suit the individual needs of each student.

Ayrshire Academy Of Canine Beautician Description

Ayrshire Academy Of Canine Beauticians is a private training school. We issue a certificate of training on completion of our foundation 20 day and 30 day courses and our 5 day groomers assistant course. This certificate recognises the attendance, skills and training that our students have completed. The courses are a foundation step towards qualification i. e. City & Guilds. It is a requirement that you have worked in the grooming industry for a minimum of 18 months before you can sit your City & Guilds. Please also note that it is not a legal requirement in the UK for grooming salons or their employees to have a recognised qualification.
.
DOG GROOMING AS A CAREER

Each breed has different requirements and there are many types of coat which all require specialist skills and techniques in their preparation. The work involves bathing, shampooing, drying and clipping, trimming , handstripping and brushing a variety of long and short coated dogs. Dog groomers should have a good eye to hand coordination and an eye for detail. An artistic flair is an advantage. Along with these standard services there are also special procedures which include nail clipping, ear care and treatment for parasites. A love of animals is essential for this type of work, and a good deal of patience is required, with a firm but gentle way of handling. Good customer care is a large part of the job, and a pleasant courteous manners combined with a neat and tidy appearance are essential.

Dog grooming as a career can be described in many ways. Your clients, the dogs, come in all shapes and sizes, temperaments and conditions. Some of them are the dog groomers dream they will stand patiently whilst some of them need a firm but fair approach. Dog Grooming is hard physical work which can drain you of energy. At the same time though it is satisfying, rewarding and often inspiring. working for yourself is a liberating experience. You can set your own pace, ie decide when you work, when you take holidays, how long you shut down for over Christmas and New Year and so on. However all of these decisions have to be balanced against the needs of the business too in terms of , for example, how much you need to earn to cover costs and provide you with the income you require. If your goal is to start your own dog grooming business you will need to take our 30 day course. When you have completed this course you will be ready to start your own business and book in your first dogs. What you wont have is speed. This comes with experience and the only way to get that experience is to get started. This means that when you start your own grooming business your income will be restricted by the number of dogs you can realistically take on each day. A newly trained groomer- working alone will only be able to manage 2 dogs a day to start with, so the initial financial rewards will be limited. However, with repetition comes speed and you can expect your daily income to steadily increase. After your course is complete, we will always be on hand for guidance and advice.

We have had a few students finishing their grooming courses this month and although it’s a sad time for us to see the students leave, Laura and I are so proud to have been on the journey from the first day of training to watching them blossom into groomers. Now the hard work starts, the Grooming course is provides the foundation , then after the course the students start putting it all into practice and gaining experience, finding their style, and starting their new careers. ...Exciting times ahead for each and every one of them. Our students come to us as strangers and leave as friends. We will always be on hand to give advice and will see them all again in the future. So Elaine, Darryl, Katherine and Suzy, we wish you well and are extremely proud of the commitment you put into learning during your time with us. You all have the talent to go far and more importantly you have a lovely way with the dogs, even the Challenging ones, so huge pat on the back to all of you, hold your head up high and enjoy your new adventure.
