Ayrshire Hospice

About Ayrshire Hospice

The Ayrshire Hospice is a registered charity (SC011390) that provides outstanding quality care and services to adults with any life limiting illness across Ayrshire and Arran.

Ayrshire Hospice Description

Largely dependent on voluntary donations, the Ayrshire Hospice provides care where there is no cure for a condition: care which improves the quality of each day for people who have a limited time to live. We help people to live as actively as they can to the end of their lives - however long that may be, where ever that may be. We provide care in a number of places including people’s own homes, hospitals and care homes as well as in our purpose built day care and in-patient units.

The care we provide is at no cost to the patient. However, it does require extensive, on-going fundraising support. It costs £7. 4million per year to run all of our hospice services, that’s over £20, 000 per day. Of this £7. 4million, we need to raise £4. 3million every year through voluntary donations.

Meet Kerry Lindsay, pictured left, an amazing Ayrshire Hospice supporter who, over the next 12 months, has challenged herself to 30 things at 30 years old including: • Walk the West Highland Way, • Take on the Three Peaks Challenge, • Scale ten Munros, • Walk an average 10,000 steps every day for a year, ... • Cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh • Walk the Land O’ Burns Starlight Walk on Saturday 18th May!
And Kerry is doing it all to raise money for the Ayrshire Hospice, a charity that is close to her and her family’s heart. She said: “I decided that as I approached 30 I should mark this momentous occasion by raising money for the Ayrshire Hospice - a fantastic local charity who have helped my family and lots of others in recent years. They looked after my gran in 2008 and all the staff were amazing and couldn’t do more for her. My Aunt Anne also worked for the hospice for many years too.”
Next up for Kerry, originally from Prestwick but now lives in Glasgow, is the Ayrshire Hospice Land O’ Burns Starlight Walk on Saturday 18th May – just a couple of weeks after she has completed the 22.6 mile Glasgow Kiltwalk and a week after the 96 mile West Highland Way!

Yesterday my brother passed away and for the last 7 weeks of his life he was taken care of by the most amazing caring people that I have ever met.

The staff at the hospice go out their way to make the lives of their patients and their families as carefree and normal as possible.

The Ayrshire Hospice is totally amazing! My mum was a resident for only 3 weeks before she died in 2008, but in that time the staff were so good to mum and our family too; they look after you all. Nothing was a hassle for the staff - I was there almost 24/7 the last few days and they fed me and put up a campbed for me. Mum was always treated with such care and respect, even when she would not have known what was going on. To be able to provide such a high standard of care as a charity is incredible; we can't rate them highly enough.

User

Thank you so much for making my mum's final days dignified and free from pain. I can't thank you all enough for looking after my mum and also my family during a very difficult time thank you from the bottom of my heart

Our lovely dad, grandad, great grandad and my mums husband for the last 60 years - Benny Denovan - sadly past away yesterday afternoon.

For the last 6 months past, Dad/Doctor Benny has been a resident at the Ayrshire Hospice.

Despite my Dads terrible illness - MND - my dad never complained and while a resident, councillor for others, joker, and a dear friend to ALL of the Dream Team - he lived his last 6 months to the full!

The family will never forget the professionalism, care, dignity and friendship that the Hospice gave to my Dad and us all. He’s at peace now and will be watching over us all - indeed I have no doubt that he has some pranks lined up for us!

Without offending anyone, if I was writing a Tripadviser review Ayrshire Hospice - (6 stars!)

Wishing the Dream Team and their families a very Happy Christmas - and if there is ever anything I can do please don’t hesitate in contacting me.

Love and best wishes

A fortnight ago, our very own superhero (mb) lost his battle within the hospice. As an individual with additional needs, he took the admission in his stride and loved all the attention from each and every wonderful staff member, eyes shut but always had a smile for anyone entering the room.

My negative perception of a hospice was completely blown out of the window, I can not express enough to people the amazing job that you guys do. We as support staff to mb were treated like family, it was so comforting to see him relaxed, comfortable and able to be there with him each day and until the end.
