Balgay Parish Church Description

Balgay is a welcoming church family in Dundee Presbytery, part of the Church of Scotland. If you live locally, or you're visiting the area, we'd love to see you on a Sunday @ 11am.

For hundreds of years there's been places of worship in the area, and the current building has stood since 1902. It's located at the junction of Lochee Road and Tullideph Road.

A Valentine message with a difference during the service today... the ticket reads, "The God who created this beautiful flower wants you to know how precious you are to him." I didn't get a good picture of all the children handing the roses out, but there were lots of happy smiles and appreciative comments from the recipients!

Heads up! Rev Nardia had members of the Board singing this - to the tune of The Flintstones - at our meeting, and we'll be singing it again with the children at this week's morning worship. In fact it's so catchy, you may well be singing it even if you can't join us (though we hope you will!) 10.30 for tea and coffee, 11am for the service. Next week is our Soup & Pancake Lunch - please do invite anyone who might like to come along 😋

Join us on Sunday for morning worship at 11am with Rev Nardia, with tea and coffee afterwards upstairs in the hall. Here are a few of the happy folk enjoying fellowship and refreshments last week- even Connor will forget biscuits for a story!

Hello! Join us for tea, coffee and chat from 10.30 this Sunday, with morning worship from 11 - sing, pray and let Rev Nardia help you make sense of things. Don't forget to browse our extensive collection of donated books by the stairs, a bargain at 50p each and a great range of genres!

14 of us enjoyed a delicious Supper Club meeting at Daisy Tasker - we would all recommend the risotto! Next get-together will be March 19 at Boat Brae, Newport, and lifts will be available. Sign up on the sheets nearer time.

So the oars were to symbolise different qualities we need to move forward in our voyage together towards God - trust, courage, perseverance, transformation, harmony, unusual kindness, harmony and... love. We heard the gripping account of St Paul's terrifying stormy journey that ended in shipwreck on Malta, and the surprising kindness of strangers. Plus there are a couple of images from the Prayer Breakfast.

Another busy Sunday at Balgay! Bacon rolls at the prayer breakfast from 9.30am - eat, chat and spend a few minutes (or more) doing the quiet activities at the various imaginative prayer stations in the other hall. Do come along and try it out. Morning worship is from 11am - the minister has apparently been borrowing oars, what is going on? ... could it be the return of Arky McArkface??? There will be the monthly care home service at St Columba's at 2pm - help with singing will be appreciated.

What is the weather going to do tomorrow? We can't be sure of that, but what is certain is that tea and coffee will be on offer at Balgay from 10.30am with morning worship led by Rev Nardia at 11. Do join us. Next Sunday, Jan 19, will see the Prayer Breakfast from 9.30am with bacon rolls in the hall and some imaginative, thought provoking prayer prompts in the small hall. On Jan 19 there will also be a short service at St Columba's care home at 2pm - help with singing will be appreciated!

Part of the service last week was an invitation from Rev Nardia to write on a giant piece of paper our reflections on the year that was ending as a collective prayer. This week, it was the same but to look ahead to our hopes and fears for the new year🙂 a thought provoking exercise and lots of people got involved...

Want to get fit in the new year? Two new Pilates classes start in Balgay church hall this Wednesday (Jan 8), 5.30pm and 6.30pm, run by Jenny Hill. £7 per class or £30 for a 6 week block. Please bring a mat with you.

A very happy new year to everyone in the 156-strong Facebook Balgay family! Join us for Epiphany Sunday worship led by Rev Nardia at 11am, with tea and coffee afterwards in the hall. The January Bulletin is being published a week later than usual so will be in the pews next Sunday. Anyone who needs to see it before then for rota duties etc, message us your email address and I'll send you the PDF 😊

Doug Marshall writes: "It was bitterly cold and the wind was blowing hard off the water in Broughty Ferry at mid-afternoon on 1st January. The couple of thousand spectators who had gathered for the annual spectacle of the New Years Dook were wrapped-up in their warmest winter clothes and sipped on hot chocolate from the catering van. The participants of this annual challenge, including our own Adam Marshall, began to muster at the top of the slipway. Among their number was Wo...nder Woman, the Super Mario Brothers and a comedy horse. But as you know, Adam was taking part for the serious business of raising funds in support of the Monifieth High School/Signpost International expedition to Uganda in June. We are pleased to report that not only did he breech the chilly, murky waters of the Tay that day but he swam across the harbour without looking back - and lived to tell the tale! With the wonderful support of our Balgay friends, family and neighbours, Adam is on track to have collected over £300 for his endeavours, which will go a long way to helping him and his school colleagues to help so many others in Africa this summer. Thanks to the excellent organisation by Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association, the New Years Dook has developed into a marvellous community event and a chance for so many good causes to gain sponsorship, friends to get together and many just taking the opportunity to start the New Year with a liberating challenge - literally, taking the plunge.
We are very proud of Adam’s efforts and his commitment to the Uganda expedition. Your generous gifts are of great help and very much appreciated. Thank you.”

This week's Sunday worship is a 🎶Songs of Praise service, incorporating all age informal Communion 🍞🍷 (gf bread and non alcoholic wine). Sounds like fun - do join us if you can! It's 11am with tea and coffee from 10.30 😃☕

In just a few days' time, Balgay's own Adam Marshall will brave the icy waters of Broughty Ferry Harbour for the Ne'er Day Dook. This is to raise funds towards a trip to Uganda in the summer with local Christian charity Signpost International. If you would like to sponsor Adam, please add your name to the sheet in the vestibule at the back of the church this Sunday - or let us know if you can't make it this week but would like to make his sub zero swim worthwhile!
