Visited this place today with family. Had light lunch which was enjoyed by everyone. Would only say that the tomato soup was fine for adults but my granddaughter had it and it was bit spicy for her. Sandwiches were tasty. Toilets spotless. Has shop with has large selection of tasty treats!

Expectations were high, but we're not met. The first problem was wheelchair access. The car park is made of deep, loose gravel. Getting my dad in his wheelchair to the restaurant or shop was pretty awkward. You'll need several sessions at the gym before attempting this feat. Then there was the food. My ribeye steak - meant to be 8oz uncooked weight - I doubt was even close to five. I asked for it rare. It was so thin, it would have been impossible to cook it rare. My dad had his medium and his oozed more blood than mine. I opted out of chips and asked for extra salad instead. There was not discernably more salad on mine than any other plates that came out with chips on. The meat itself I found to be lacking in flavour.

Ordinarily, I'd have made a fuss. As I was being treated by my dad, I didn't have the heart to. On my own, I'd have had the steak weighed.

The last time my dad and his wife went, she made a point of mentioning the wheelchair access problem. It's a quick and not expensive fix for the Balgove. Apparently, they took no heed of the observation. A poor effort indeed.

All in all, it was a disappointment.

We love this place and the ambiance it provides. Balgove is wonderful and would normally have a 4 or 5 star rating from me (we've been going regularly for a year and take our visitors here). However, the last two times we visited our chips were gritty. Upon closer inspection we noticed there were flecks of dirt/sand on them creating an awful texture when eating. The first time I mentioned it they were replaced promptly but the second batch had the same issue. We went back a few days later hoping it was a fluke but alas gritty chips again!! Maybe the oil needs to be changed more frequently? I'll be back but won't be ordering chips anymore.

Within walking distance from the West Sands, this combination market-restaurant is a must visit! Delicious scones and breakfasts.

Tasty food, reasonable prices and decent portions. Lovely little farm shop too.

Very tasty steak, the best onion rings I think i have ever tasted. A bit pricy BUT you are eating prime cuts of Scottish beef. A bit cold in the restaurant BUT you are sitting outside in a barn. £2.25 for about 25 ml of peppercorn sauce BUT it was very tasty. I think £1.25 would be a fairer price.
To be fair I'll probably be back.

Incredible Scottish treasure. Just at the entrance of St Andrews across from the Old Course hotel, this amazing farm shop carries everything from and picked Scottish home items to local craft beer, a charming cafe and innovative Steak Barn. I've been many times. The food never disappoints: fresh local and with a fantastic home-grown ethos. It has great choices for vegetarians and meat lovers alike- an onsite butchery, local art, liquor and a rustic flower shed. A must see for anyone coming to St Andrews
