Ballantrae West End Hotel

Absolutely horrible... From the outside it's beautiful, you walk in and you're hit with an outdated grand entrance with flooring that's coming up. We then get shown to our basement bedroom (large) with a door to a unkempt garden. The handle falls off in your hand. A previous visitors discarded back pain rub left on the floor. The wallpaper coming away from the walls and the tiles in the bathroom ready to come up! Never again! Please don't stay here, we've paid £150 for the courtesy of a dingy basement from the 1900's

There was stains on our bedding (blood) also stains on our towels. Bathroom floor tiles where loose and wobbly and chunk out the bottom of bath while there was bugs and hairs in the bath. The bathroom light switch did not work so the light was constantly on.leaking radiator. Definitely will not be back and would not recommend what so ever such an unwelcoming hotel which needs a lot of work doing to it

Good location for a walk into Edinburgh, rooms are good and it's quiet

Listed building in the Westend of New town. Shabby and dated. The staff used to make the difference and is worth staying there if you get it very cheap. Otherwise there are so many better options nearby.

Room was very poor. Broken things, ripped wallpaper and carpet. Stains and cleaning was poor

Shocking hotel. Absuluty disgusting. No cleanleness atall. Will not be returning!!!!!! No offer of a refund or exchange of room. Just passed on to the next person.....

Had a great comfortable stay no hassle met really nice staff. Will go back soon.

Possibly the worst hotel I have ever been so unfortunate to stay in. So dirty with a hole in the floor beside a single bed which was covered by carpet. Then there was the bathroom which was disgusting with a shower curtain that looked so grubby it had to have been there for quite a number of years as it was all stained. The carpet is all worn out and the roof had a huge damp patch with plaster coming away. The dust was thick inside the rims of the table cloths by the bedside and the room smelled absolutely vile. The in room menu states what is available downstairs and when I went to buy something I was told that they had no idea why that was on there as the place has never stocked such items. Guests were slamming doors at 5 am over and over too. I have never looked forward to coming home from what was supposed to be an amazing weekend as much as I have this time. At breakfast I had to ask for the milk and juice jugs to be refilled two mornings in a row and the water jug had stagnant water which was warm. This place shouldn't even be running and the price is an absolute joke for what is available for a third of the price in other places. It was difficult to complain to staff as the only time they were seen was at breakfast and the language barrier is difficult. I would never recommend this to anyone else. Such a shame for such a grand building.
