Balmoral Castle

Really cool location in the middle of Cairngorms. Beautiful, primal, and rugged. Down rated one star due to a fairly lackluster self-guided tour.

We where so lucky. Saw the queen 2 times in her Range Rover going and coming from the the church. Beautiful gardens. Ballroom is nice, only place which accessible.

Felt completely ripped off.
This visit is a waste of hard earned cash. Very poor value for money.

All you're allowed to do is walk around the grounds surrounding the building. This should be free, for all you get to see...
There's a small "museum" with pictures of the royals in the stables, the most utterly boring audio-guide to listen to during your walk around the unimpressive garden, and one small castle room to visit, with not much in it.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
Even a visit to McDonald's is more interesting than this.
Although the castle is pretty I must say...

Lovely walks. Castle nice for photos.
Can only get into the ballroom.
Was a bird of prey event so we got to hold some fantastic owls.

Beautiful grounds, wonderful gift shop. The tour guides are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Visited for RunBalmoral 15mile run. Beautiful, well maintained estate. Good parking.

This is the best castle ever. im thinking about using it for my story/show series im writing about which is about "Loyality being Royality" but the titile of the story/show series is called "Greece"

The staff are stiff and unfriendly, especially towards children. It's way over priced. Not historically that interesting, unless you are a starry-eyed royalist. Nothing very interesting inside the castle (a plastic model of the crown in a box!). Poorly-maintained buildings. Gardens are not impressive at all. I suspect that the very high entrance fee goes into the royal pocket and not towards the property. Go to any National Trust property instead. Way cheaper, much more interesting and better maintained properties. Also national trust have much more kid-friendly and nicer staff.
